And the magical federal government fairy came, waved her wand and said, "Ye shall be given more credit!"

Sweet!  We can borrow more money!  Borrow borrow! Spend spend!

Friend of mine told me they got saki vending machines.   Nothing like being able to pick up some booze while walking down the street.

If you're blonde and blue-eyed, you can make some good money stripping there too.

Since I'm a terribly un-savvy person in the field of economics, where exactly do these 700 billion dollars go?

To the fuck up companies that put themselves in this mess in the first place.

I'm currently writing a congress member to see if I can get some of that sent my way to pay for my student loans. :)

The government gets a controlling ownership in the company.

Unless something changed, that is not the case. Last I read it's a straight purchase of the securities themselves. Ownership of the companies would of made it too likely that we would someday recoup our $700,000,000,000.

Yeah, In simple terms: we are buying alot of risky mortgages and hoping people continue to pay.   Its good for the bailout companies because now they can sell assets to the government that the market believes arent worth anything.

Imagine if you had a bus you bought cash 5000...then found out it didnt have an engine....well you can't use it and who wants a bus without an engine.  what could you sell it for?  Not anywhere near 5000 right?  Well here comes the governement to help you out by offering you 4500 for it, because if you go broke....it affects like 100 million people.

I wish my finances had that kind of impact.

All in all, the moron that buys the bus with no engine should be left with it.

I'll give you a real example.  A small business owner recently sold his business and home and purchased another near a co-worker of mine for $1.5 million.  Recently he let this property go into default not making any house payments, yet each morning he hooks up his brand new boat to his brand new Hummer and goes to the lake.  Today, we just restructured his mortgage, drastically reducing his house payments and basically paying off his new toys. Sweet deal don't you think?

AFAIK, the 700B$ is just the amount AVAILABLE to the companies. It's not likely they'll take the full amount because there's supposed to be a huge interest rate attached to motivate them to take as little as is necessary.

Also, seriously, let's talk about this FDIC Cap raised to 250K. Seriously, wat.
