Deus Ex 3 aims to continue the trend of great IPs being snatched up and reduced to dogshit braindead shooters for the Xbox contingent because the idea of a challenging or interesting game is too scary for Halo-playing manchildren to risk dropping $60 of their hard-earned frat party money on and it's a lot safer for everyone to just make Garbage Futuristic FPS #3256 rather than face the daunting possibilities of actually making good design decisions or coming up with an idea that hasn't been done twenty seven times this year alone.

Brosnan has a valid concern, but it remains to be seen if the changes are more than just graphical. If they keep the old mechanics around ( I'll admit first that I didn't finish either of the first 2. But I have them and enjoy either a great deal ). From what I recall, Deus Ex 2 had rave reviews, as did the first. That's enough established legacy to give them the momentum to really let this project swing and reach the maturity it deserves. I have hope. Safety + Peace

You recall wrong -- Deus Ex 2 was total garbage that everyone quickly tried to forget about, and they're pretending to have learned from its mistakes even as they make the same ones all over again. Here's a lil preview of DX3: - Health automatically regenerates a la Call of Duty. - Stealth now relies on a cover system gimmick. - Augs feature such subtle improvements as "punching through walls to grab enemies in neighboring rooms" and "bungie jumping off buildings" - Art direction looks like some horrendous JRPG shit, despite the fact that it's supposed to be a prequel to a game that was actually pretty well grounded in reality. But hey, Xbox owners will love it!

Ehh I wouldn't say it looks like a JRPG. At all. I don't really care what they do to the gameplay, because nothing can beat the original DX imho. I didn't play IW excpecting to be challenged and I don't expect to be challenged by most new games, especially RPGs. I just hope the new writers can come up with a story that has almost as much depth as the original DX and with good enough references to philosophy and hard science to make me happy. But of course it's just going to draw a bunch of braindead violence junkies who don't know shit about history or philosophy or politics or science into the fandom.

Weren't you like 9 years old when DX came out? I guess you could have "revisited it" in the last year or so... Quote:

But hey, Xbox owners will love it! I half-agree with Brosnan on Deus Ex 2. On the up side there was the same wide range of choices with even varying factions to ally with, a not-too-brilliant but thoughtful character creation mode with choice of gender, beautiful lighting and the Omar. The Omar are fucking awesome and I will not hear otherwise. On the down side the game dumbed down with less biomods, less RPG stuff, being shorter and that really irritating problem of having ALL your guns share the SAME ammo. It's not that brilliant when you use up an entire ammo load for rocket launchers only to then find you kinda fucked yourself with not enough for a good assault rifle spread. Good game, shame it was dumbed down in gameplay. I just hope the third, a prequel as well, will stay like the first game instead but look prettier. Also, health regeneration? That better be because I get the health regen biomod at the start which I always picked in the first game. Because I'm real tired of this auto-regen all shooters seem to have as if you really can heal wounds by sitting in a corner rocking back and forth. "Videogames are bad for you? Helios FTW Oh I know IW wasn't, I meant to say that since Deus Ex 3 is also being a prequel there is more pressure on it, lil mistake of mine there. Anyways Helios is awesome yes but Omar are <3 "Videogames are bad for you? That's what they said about rock 'n' roll." - Shigeru Miyamoto Hail Slither, The Eternal Champion!

Nope, the way it's phrased is that pretty much how the damage system works in general is like Call of Duty, and the augmentations are more geared toward cool tactical decisions like the SLAM A 'DEW, DO A BACKFLIP, KICK A PIG IN THE FUCKIN' FACE!!!! aug. mmm nope looks exactly like what they described it as. Cyberpunk with Renaissance influence. Definitely not ridiculous enough to be FF aesthetic.

That's weird because like 15-20 years later the world looks completely normal in DX1.

Wait, I thought we were talking about the supposed aesthetic similarity to final fantasy, where did discrepancies in continuity come from?
