Just get one that's comfortable, cheap, and works.

I love my G5. The weight set is to customize it to feel "right" for you. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I'd first recommend looking for a G7, then a G8. I have the new two-thumb button G5, and it's built like a brick, very precise and very well designed. The only reason I wouldn't recommend it over the G7 is because the nylon-threaded cable hooks onto the edge of my desk once in a while and it gets annoying until you put some tape over the surface. The G8 is also pretty amazing and is a great 2nd choice if you have the money. Win Cookies Awarded: 7 (bawwwwww)

I unfortunately like the Microsoft 5-button, wired optical mice. Nice big 4th/5th buttons, one on each side. None of this squeezing two buttons together on one side crap. Who the fuck has a thumb that small? Downside is I've gone through a lot of these. They're nice while they work, but don't work any more than ~6 months.

I've got one of the original G5s and wish that I had a 518 instead. I am quite annoyed by the lack of a second thumb button on my G5. The newer G5s have 2 though so just check which one your buying if it matters to you.
