Valve's class-based multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 won't receive its next major update until next year, marketing VP Doug Lombardi has informed Shacknews.
digg_url = 'http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55364';
"Well, it won't be this year," said Lombardi when asked about the next update. "But we're going to keep evolving TF2. Once Left 4 Dead wraps, you'll hear us clamoring more about [the next TF2 update]."
Lombardi made the statement after speaking on the impending release of Left 4 Dead (PC, 360), which saw contributions from numerous Team Fortress 2 team members as development of the cooperative zombie-killing shooter entered the final stages.
Since TF2's arrival last year, Valve has provided numerous free updates to owners of the PC version, adding new modes and maps along with class-specific achievements and unlockables for the Medic, Pyro and Heavy classes. The studio has pledged that all of the title's nine classes will eventually be updated with new weaponry

Well, that sucks. But since everyone's going to be playing Left 4 Dead in 1 month, 4 days and 9 hours the impact will be lessened. Win Cookies Awarded: 7 (bawwwwww)

Ehh...I can wait a few months. Like Caio said: Left 4 Dead is coming out soon, so the wait won't be too bad.
Still, TF2 is the first game I've been thoroughly addicted to. I would hate to see it dwindle to next to nothing like TFC did. As long as Valve doesn't completely abandoned it, I can forgive them, lol wrote:{pDs} TitaniumPhoenix: We're Mexican. I say we pull a razor outta our titties and cut them! I feel ripped off, I think if they are going to release games then they need to contribute continuously, not when its convenient for them, I am excited about L4D coming out, but not everyone is going to buy it right away, TF2 could use a lot of fixes. But oh well

To be honest, Valve has totally spoiled its community. With the amount of content they've released, I'd have happily paid for all of it as an expansion ( which any, any *any* other company would have done ). To suddenly QQ because nothing is going to be coming until 2009 ( less than 3 months from now ) is worse than the homeless guy that takes your five-dollar bill and then bitches about it not being a twenty Safety + Peace

As I recall I paid for my HL2 with addons, I also paid for Counterstrike and all the Source games, So exactly what expansions are you speaking of? the community developed mods? I paid and took all the BS that when along with it, They would rather put out more games than fix the crap they have. Oh sure I love playing the games and it does give me an incredible amount of joy, But to push back a patch release date to release a new glitchy game. Sweet sign me up. They need to work on the Steam crap and start actually updating patches that work to ban the hackers and assholes that decide its fun to ruin our games. I think we had better success with PB than with Steam. but oh well we lose out.

I can;t find where I read it, but I know that it's another "after we finish L4D, then we will move ppl around to really put resources into EP3"
Additionally, they saying that the Episode 2-3 story time gap is going to be the longest gap for any of the episodes. Meaning the opening scene will not just pickup where you left off in ep2...there is going to be a " 6 months later...." type intro where events have unfolded that the player never experienced directly in teh game. Similar to the gap between HL1 and HL2 Quote:

Why not just make it a new game then?

I was referring specifically to the content and upkeep released for TF2. IMO, Valve launched a fire-and-forget with all their other games. CSS hasn't seen any real updates in years, including actively ignoring known exploits in the way of "keeping tradition." You know what I'm talking about, you awp-whores and bunny-hoppers. TF2 has become a real flagship for Valve's talent and focus, and it looks like these guys are in it for the long haul. Safety + Peace
