I understand that corporations need to find a manageable way to fund the ever increasing cost of acting as service providers, but a tiered content system and the whole "toll road" proposition is utterly batshit insane. I am completely for net neutrality, and am even a member of the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation). The internet is the sole reason we have a completely flat world now, and the reason why most borders are being knocked to the ground like all those houses in the midst of Katrina (what, too soon?) It is completely restructuring and reorganizing our world and redistributing power across the globe, and that's what I think is the main reason the big companies want to take control of it. And that's just disgusting.

How about some of the more politically inclined members of the forum? Anyone have anything to add or rebut?

Since the Internet hasn't been considered a public service much like say radio, then there's little room for the government, I think, to decide how much access internet providers are obligated to provide.  It's more like cable in that regard.  You don't get all the stations you want, but if you paid extra, you could or in some cases it simply wasn't an option.
