Researchers believe that the insect is better at managing congestion than humans, helping each other move around their colony much more efficiently.
That is why you never see the tiny creatures backed up and idling along a scent trail as they busily go about their chores in an organised and directed way. Read More silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

I dunno. They go into a spazz of chaos if I hock one right onto their scent path and break the chain.

How to fix the problem: Put a computer and radio transponder in every car. That way all cars are in constant communication with each other and accidents can be avoided when the system detects a risky situation and onboard AI takes control of the wheel. Congestion can also be avoided this way, just plot the course and let autopilot and the collective consciousness of the cars take over. When the system becomes more reliable the need for extra reinforcement drops and cars can be superlight and therefore more efficient and cheaper. You can see the similarities now to the proposed usefulness of the TROPHY active protection system, even though that system has its own major flaw.

The only problem I've ever seen with this method is... 1) If you have independent systems, aka a computer in every car acting as a separate node, then someone can (easily) hack into theirs and modify it to take advantage, thus telling all cars to get out of his way and have the way of the road. THis would fuck with the system and cause havoc where harmony should live. 2) If you have dependent systems, aka a computer in every car that interacts with a system built into the highway which acts as a single super-node, then someone can fuck with the super node and havoc reigns. The hardest part is getting around the fact that any computer system can be compromised, always. Even when we have quantum physics based computers with encryption that takes over a million years to break, there's always the Kevin Mitnick method: Social Engineering. *sigh* silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Even when we have quantum physics based computers with encryption that takes over a million years to break, there's always the Kevin Mitnick method: Social Engineering. *sigh* That's the thing, all the connected computers get rid of the factor of independently thinking humans. I forget what it's called, but the phenomena of traffic has to do with the fact that everybody is thinking independently and they are unable to communicate beyond honking their horn. Same goes for people on foot. The more people there are the slower, because everyone is afraid of getting into an accident. When you have a massive amount of cars all going the same way, technically they could all be going 100 mph or 5mph (except you have to factor in that people will be getting off at certain exits so people will have to make way). If all the cars were in communication then they could all be going 100mph uniformly (until someone needs to get off at an exit, in which case the system makes proper measures of slowing certain cars down). I realize the idea is crazy and dangerous but I am an optimist, I think it will be possible some day. So anyways if everybody can get where they want at the maximum possible speed, there would be no incentive for somebody to hack the system to be able to get where they want faster. Of course there are psychopaths who would put people at danger but that possibility already exists anyways. PS. You know, threads like these is why I suggested the Science and Technology forum
