What platform should i buy it on?

I love my PC, but am skeptical of being able to run it at high settings as my video card is 3 yrs old.

Or i could benefit from sitting on my couch and playing it on my 52 inch Sony Bravia XBR.

I am struggling with this as well, but to save the $10 difference.  My PC can handle it all, but I too would love to play it on my 52" Samsung ToC TV in the living room.

Money is a little tight, so probably get the PC version here.

PS3 version is the worst of the bunch, it suffers from frame hitches and texture issues that the other versions do not.  The PC version also looks and performs significantly better than the other two according to various sources including PC Gamer.  I'm going with the PC version for better graphics, performance, and mods.

Oblivion didn't launch with mod tools either.

I have to confess total ignorance to the gameplay style of Fallout 3.  Is it a first-person, action-almost-shooter-esque affair a la Oblivion, as it appears?  It's obviously not top-down sprites like the old Fallouts, but an aiming-sensitive control scheme could make the decision easy for me.

First person shooter controls made Halo a snoozer for me, and Mass Effect was only slightly better (and overshined by a brilliant story), but replaying it now on the PC is soooo much better.

Anyone want to fill me in before I start downloading random gameplay videos?

Go watch the IGN video review.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure either so... Don't take my word on it. If mods do come out sometime, It will probably only come out for the PC version though

Thanks for the input everyone.  I chose my favorite baby...the PC.  Downloading it via Steam now.

I figure I will get a new graphics card soon anyway...I can run oblivion pretty well on high setttings...so I imagine i will do okay.

Ya, thanks for the review... I typically don't use IGN's reviews for much comparison shopping since they just copy/paste the same review for whatever systems it's released on, but here it was useful to see the overall style.

On that basis, I followed Giller's lead.  I'm downloading the PC version now as well.

I got it for the ps3, even knowing it was prob going to be the worst out of all 3 versions (at least it has a hard drive install though, less load times).  I can always hope for a future patch to clear up the glitches and issues.

Don't believe the crap other people tell you.

It's Oblivion with guns.  For me at least, that's a good thing, but that's really exactly what it is.

I take it back....... soooooo boring.  Miles and miles of winding, mapless tunnels filled with useless crap, stilted and lifeless AIs that haven't advanced an ounce since Oblivion, and a world/story so monotonous I literally began drifting to sleep.  At least with Oblivion we got a fancy fantasy world with demons and castles and stuff -- this is just grey and depressing.  The whole time I played, every time I spoke to someone I said to myself "Geez, man, your life really sucks!" over and over until I finally asked myself "Why the heck am "I" still here??"

I hate to be ranting, but it literally feels like Bethesda was just cashing on the Oblivion game engine, strip out the medieval and insert apocalyptic.  But in my opinion they stripped out some of the good things (beautiful setting, magic/arcane powers, ability to SELL ALL THE SHIT YOU FIND), kept some of the bad/mediocre (AI dialogue so stiff I've felt more depth from my DOS prompt (and what's with the "gotta zoom in, gotta lock your focus like iron on the person you're talking to?), AI combat so pointless it makes me wonder why I'd use a gun in the first place (all they do is run at you!!!)), and god help you if you run out of "I-can-pause-the-battle-and-target-individual-parts" Action Points.

I'm not whining, I didn't die or find it too hard, I just didn't enjoy myself for more than about 5 minutes in.  Sorry guys.

You're right, I mean it's definitely got some flaws. For me, the story doesn't have the thrust of other RPGs like Oblivion or KOTOR. I think we've been spoiled though, this game inevitably invites comparison. (Bioshock, KOTOR, Deus Ex, Oblivion). Comparison is never kind, but by itself, it's a perfectly decent game, IMHO.

However I love the Ghouls and Mutants and all that stuff. So I'm still drawn in, so far.
