Looks like i'm going to be able to hold out long enough to just avoid vista all together. i have been dragging my feet on upgrading to vista cuz i heard it was crap, everytime i used it on someone else's comp i hated it, i have limited funds, linux is free and pretty and fun... the list goes on but since steve ballmer says he wants windows 7 out next year, i can just upgrade to that. so i guess i won. Hooray for me.
Anyone know anything about 7 at all? i read about it on cnet/yahoo and all they said was "its stable" and "new taskbar". I mean them kids at MS are like gutting out the decaying crap from its payroll and getting with the program so this windows shouldn't be a debacle, right?

Who cares? There's nothing that remarkable about vista in the first place, XP is as good as ever.

I doubt you will have Windows 7 before 2010. As for Vista, I have been using it for quite some time and have never had an issue with it. I am pretty sick of the "heard it sucked" excuse though. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Vista may look nice and have many improvements over XP, but there's a reason there is so much negative consumer response to it. It's not ONLY the Mac sponsored smear campaign against it. It's the fifteen thousand admin password requests, the CPU destroying Aero, the lack of WinFS, and the list goes on. Maybe it's the awful implementation of WGA or just how annoying Microsoft has become in general. People see Mac as a way to get around all of these minor annoyances. And guess what. It is. In fact, with Virtualization, Apple sponsored dual booting, Wine bottles, Crossover, Coherence Modes, and just better all programs on the Mac... well it is. It's a good change, an easy change, an so much more visually appealing than Vista. Sorry, I just got pissed off by the "And I'm sick of the 'i heard it sucked' excuse." It took me like five minutes to write this, though, because Scrubs is on on my TV. What was I talking about? Oh yeah, Windows 7. Engadget/Ars Technica have had some articles. It's not the visual upgrade like Vista. It's pretty much what Snow Leaopard is to Leopard - an under the hood change. They're releasing new APIs to help programs interface with the taskbar, etc. It seems.. almost worthwhile. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081028-first-look-at-windows-7.html http://gizmodo.com/5069661/windows-7-walkthrough-boot-video-and-impressions And for gods sake get Firefox's linkification add on. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Vista isn't perfect. I use it on both of my computers daily and although I prefer XP Vista does have some nice things about it. Pretty much, I have had the following issues with Vista that I have never had with XP on the same hardware:
1) Connection often gets dropped to Local Only, in which case I have to manually reconnect each time (or restart on really bad days) to fix.
2) Network and Sharing center will freeze a lot. Especially with wireless connections when I have to open it up to view networks and change settings. It gets very annoying and it always seems to happen when I cannot connect to the internet.
3) Programs sometime don't launch properly like they should (and do fine in XP). I can see it in the task manager, and even if you kill it and restart it it doesn't do it sometimes.
4) I've had some of my drivers drop on me completely. Often my sound would randomly fail due to some failed windows action. I've also had to edit the registry (twice) because vista randomly stopped detecting my optical drive.
All of the crap about Vista being slow is nonexistent for me though. I have a laptop that is older than dirt and runs Vista fine. A lot of the things people say to compare its memory usage with XP aren't really fair since they don't utilize memory in the same way. XP leaves alone memory until it needs it, but Vista uses it to optimize other programs (which makes it seem like its hogging it) but gives it back to run programs when it needs to. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah
