It's not a major shakeup, nothing's going away. It's just a restructuring to hopefully expand the visibility of some forums and make them a bigger part of the site (specifically, Game Slop). HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

If ur gonna take forums and break them into sub forums, take the current sub forums out of the new sub forums. (MMO forum inside PC gaming forum as an example.)  King of Jeans I wanna be like Buddylee 007 for life

The MMO Forum belongs inside the PC Gaming forum (at least unless Final Fantasy XI suddenly takes off here), and we're not really doing genre-specific forums other than that one. Do we really have enough game topics that we need two different forums for it? What about threads where a game (which most these days are) is cross console and is both on PCs and consoles? Maybe if we had 1k posters, but not with our current member base. Making more forums will just dilute the amount of activity in each individual forum. Some people have said they're only interested in pc gaming and wouldn't mind it being broken out from the console gaming. Game Slop had double the activity of a lot of the discussion groups, so I doubt either will languish into disuse. Also those same PC people probably wouldn't appreciate multiple sticky threads at the top with console gamertags and friend codes, but console gamers might find them useful. Multiplatform stuff could be posted in either forum, of course. As to NSFW stuff, Business is correct. NSFW forums have been cut back to ones that are most likely to see potential NSFW stuff, but keep in mind we're not talking about NSFW discussion (unless it's like 40 pt. fonts of vulgar stuff). The NSFW concern is mainly images, and with this people can understand better which forums they can comfortably browse from work and stuff. HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

Some people want it cut? Well tough others don't and it makes more sense not to. I've modded/admined/ran my share of gamer forums in the past and I've seen forums with tens of thousands of posters that still have general gaming as one forum with sub sections underneath and even they don't differentiate PC and console games. And that's with tens of thousands of posters and things seem just fine there. Anyway I'd say the proper way to do it is create "Game Slop" and break it into sub sections, PC Games, Console Games, Tech, MMOs, etc. But only if you really have to because I've already stated before all this endless sub-division is just going to cause more trouble than it's worth, like I said before what about cross console games? What about tech that works both on PCs and consoles, what about games that are SP but have MMO elements? Subforums as they are now are fail. They have absolutely no main-page visibility, so people can't easily tell if there's no content to read unless they go into each of the parent forums. This applies to MMO, as well as the admin/pDs-members forums. I never look at those because I can't see them in the general overview.
