Right now I am about to turn 21, I am finishing up college, and I have no fucking idea about what I want to do in life. I worked as a mechanic, a computer tech, a retail salesman, Manager of a computer gaming center, and I now sell parts out of a boat dealership. I hated and enjoyed every job I worked, never been fired, have a lot of respect from my co workers, but these things arent any passion of mine.

Right now I have an offer on the table to go to the Orange County Sheriffs Department, but that requires 4 months of testing, 6 months at the academy, and alot of graveyard shifts to get me threw to the "easy" side of police work. I have been on a few ride alongs, I think that doing this is better then sitting behind a desk for the rest of my life. I also know this is a recession proof job and everyone I talk to loves it. I just don't know if its me.

A lot of dedication and time goes into something like this, and at this point I am searching myself for the answer. I have been asking friends and family for some input of my relationship with them and if they could see me getting involved with something like this. A major factor effecting me in this situation is the fact that my father says if I did this he couldnt possibly be any prouder even if I became president, while my mother says she thinks i will get shot and hates the idea that I am even considering this.

At this point I thought I should ask the someone who has known me for a 9 years, but only as a personality via internet. Do you think (givin how much u know about me, and personal insight to the situation) I should take it?

What have you got to lose?

I mean realistically you have no prospects really. Nothing holds your interest. The fact that you're putting this much thought into this idea means it's on your mind.

I once had no idea what I wanted to do with myself career wise. I fell into what I do by accident. Now I'm super happy.

I say give it a shot. You might surprise even yourself and end up enjoying it.
