I have money allocated for a game, and I'm looking hard at Left 4 Dead. The only thing is, I heard this game is one that has its peak fun factor when you play with other people and they just bought the game also. Your friend's assumptions are incorrect. L4D is fun regardless. Honestly, peak fun is anytime that you're playing with friends with mics. People that play without mics are automatically cut in half in terms of worth as part of the team.

I do not see how only having 4 maps and a very small amount of weapons could be fun for a long time. Sure, blowing up zombies is fun, but it seems like it has to get pretty old pretty quick?

Plus it is a co-op game so every time you play with others, there are opportunities for changes in strategy. playing the versus multiplayer with friends with mics is the best imho. By all means, get the game. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"
