So Crawdad and I have an opportunity to buy a used camera from a wedding photographer. It's this camera. We can get it for $500, but money (as it is with everyone and due to our significant contributions to the community *cough cough*) is tight right now. Crawdad is a terrific photographer and we have a really nice camera already (but it's film).

What do you think? We need to move fast on this so the opportunity doesn't slip by.

I'd have to say pass that offer up. 500 dollars? That camera is only a 6 megapixel and it's years old. You can get a year old Canon Rebel for the same price, which is a 10 megapixel. I love mine.

It's 12 Megapixels (the one we would be getting).

It's kinda a weird mix between 6 and 12 , I feel the DPR review shows it nicely.
http://www.dpreview.com/...FujifilmS3Pro/page20.asp (bottom of page)

Regardless, unless it comes with a lens of some kind I would probably pass. The DPR review concludes that it comes out above the D70 for the most part. These days a D70 runs $250-300. One important question for the seller is how many actuations the shutter has on it. If it is more than 10K I would pass. Really it comes down to if the "pro" features are worth extra to you such as the vertical grip and better build. If that $500 is body only you have to remember that yould need to drop at least $120 for a lens in addition. You can get a D70/D70s + 18-70 F3.5-4.5  for under $500 second hand or on craigslist. Best of luck and if you get anymore info make sure to post it up.
