Washington Post wrote:President Obama is putting the finishing touches on an ambitious first budget that seeks to cut the federal deficit in half over the next four years, primarily by raising taxes on business and the wealthy and by slashing spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, administration officials said. .... Obama also seeks to increase tax collections, primarily by making good on his promise to eliminate the temporary tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 for wealthy taxpayers, whom Obama defined during the campaign as those earning more than $250,000 a year. Those tax breaks would be permitted to expire on schedule for the 2011 tax year, when the top tax rate would rise from 35 percent to more than 39 percent.
Obama also proposes to maintain the tax on estates worth more than $3.5 million, instead of letting it expire next year. And he proposes "a fairly aggressive effort on tax enforcement" that would target tax havens and corporate loopholes, among other provisions, the official said.
Overall, tax collections under the plan would rise from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, while federal spending would drop from about 26 percent of the economy, another post-war high, to 22 percent.
Republicans, who are already painting Obama as a profligate spender, are laying plans to attack him on taxes as well. Even some non-partisan observers question the wisdom of announcing a plan to raise taxes in the midst of a recession. But senior White House adviser David Axelrod said in an interview that the tax proposals reflect the ideas that won the election last fall.
Apparently, the new way to get out of recession = disincentivize those who are successful.
If I was in charge of a corporation with anything approaching a national scope, I'd get the hell out of Dodge with what's coming.
If I was an individual making anything approaching a quarter million dollars a year (I'm not quite there yet), I'd ask myself why I'm bothering to work so hard. I certainly wouldn't take any big risks for the chance of big rewards!
What's going to happen to all those people and groups out there that are, though? Oh wait, we already know. HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

It's pretty obvious that in today's America, those who make the big bucks (maybe not a quarter mill, but definitely half and above) didn't get there from hard work. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

No. The majority of those people are honest, hard working Americans. Just because they're not the hot topic of tabloids, doesn't mean they don't exist. get your ass to mars

I aint a fan of these measures by any means. I believe very firmly that those who have worked their asses off and sacrificed to gain wealth and afluence should not be excessively taxed for their success. By having a broader discretionary income, true free market economics comes into play instead of the socialism that taxing encourages.
That being said, if Bush and the spend-like-there's-no-acountability republicans hadn't F'd everything up so horribly over the last 8 years we wouldn't be in such a hurt. So yes "Republicans" this is all your fault and now it's got to be fixed by a socialist once again. Big surprise. Sorta like what Clinton did.
Is there any way to bring back the Republican party that was about fiscal conservation but stayed away from meddling in the private sector? The group that favored small governments and low taxes. I'd really like to see that movement start up again. That these jackass's consider themselves republicans anymore is a horrible insult to what was true conservatism.
And for what it's worth, don't bash on the work put in by a CEO. Yes there's examples of those who don't do all that much but cash their paycheck. But there's tons more examples of the type that are pulling 70 hour weeks and screwing over their family while nursing the ulcer in their stomach. They don't make the headlines as often for sure, but it's not fair to paint a hedonistic stereotype across the entire group.

Ahh, I agree with most of your post except trying to lay it all at the Republicans feet. The scary thing about this is that most of the politicians that got us here are still there.

Democrats are apptly named, being an element of a democracy. In such a government where all are franchised, those who are least capable of governing are still empowered and entrusted with the ability to elect those who may pass law. This leads to ideas such as tax-and-spend whereby the people in charge take care of those who are not, for those at the bottom of the socio/economic food chain are not as capable of taking care of themselves, or else they would surely not be at the bottom. This is expected behavior of the democrats, take the power away from the people so that the people no longer have the power to take care of themselves, or to not take care of themselves.
Thus we have other parties and mentalities, whereby no one group should be allowed to pass along their own idealogical beliefs at the detriment to the country as a whole. Unfortunatley with our non-reprisentative system (as opposed to something along the lines of the UK) there are only two major parties. Still, a check-and-balance system works. Anything too hairbrained gets blocked by the other party and only things that aren't too horrid get passed along (theoretically.)
Hereby is where I blame the Republicans for this mess. Instead of countering the Democrats, they turned into Democrats. The last 8 years saw a rise in socialistic principles that I found rather disgusting. Department of Homeland Security, Needless Foreign Wars (Bread & Circus, eh?) and the even-worse than Reagen spending conducted by our government while it was helmed by the RNC are all things I find disturbing. I feel the Repub's can be blamed for this mess because they WERE actively in charge, and because they dropped the ball and acted like a bunch of drunk teenagers with their dads credit card. The hedonistic spending conducted by the House's is something I can't find excusable except perhaps by Democrats, but again, that's only because that is what is expected from the democrats.
For the Repub's to fail not only the people but their own idealogy is the reason I have no qualms placing this mess at their feet and reserving my disgust at what may be necessary to fix it.
