I have never been more depressed and miserable in my life. I may get laid off soon, it's not a sure thing but where I work is about to take at least a 20% cut. Because of the seniorirty system even if I don't personally get fired there are about 6 people who could bump me out of my job if any of them get laid off. If I get laid off I lose my house, I can't afford more than about a month before I fall behind My ex-wife's aunt's significant other is in the hospital on life support. He was one of my favorite "in-laws" and just a really awesome guy and was my friend. He's effectively brain dead, the only reason they haven't pulled the plug is because he's Irish so his family are crazy catholics who can't let go. My girlfriend broke up with me. I love her more than I've ever loved another person before. We've had problems, we had been working through them but had a big setback a few days ago. She said she would keep trying and then two days later she just gave up and threw me away. I don't know what to do, more than anything I don't want to lose her, even still. What's fucked is that just last weekend I was having the time of my life. We had a great Valentine's weekend together, everything seemed so perfect... Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Damn Cheney thats a though hand you've been dealt right now. As you know I have also been going through a rough patch.
What I learned is if you take it a day at a time and play lots of TF2 things tend to work out. Unless you play spy, spies deserve horrible horrible lives.
On a more serious note, I really hope the best for you and I hope your job doesn't lay you off. Maybe the GF thing is almost a blessing because you will be able to concentrate on other aspects of your life more clearly. (Yeah I hate it when people give that kind of advice about women too, but who knows maybe its true) Who knows maybe she will be back. But i know this from experience; When someone "gives up on you" they are also "not being a friend to you" and at that point I realized that she wasn't in the relationship for "us" as much as "her."
You've been a great pal to me and I will do anything I can to help you. Please don't hesitate to ask.

Cheney, I have an idea about some of the things you're goin thru, cause I've been thru a few myself recently... family issues busted my savings and bank account, nearly lost my car and house too... Boss on the warpath and thought I was gonna be kicked to the curb cause I finally told her I was tired of her giving me crap all the time over stuff I could not control...
I kept my car, I'm working on keeping my house, AND I've been offered an awesome job (promotion) back east, so I might be moving.
Anyhow, I just want to leave you with the reminder.. life does suck sometimes.. but it will get better. You just have to hang in there, find someone to talk to (or vent to) and know that today, tomorrow or next week, something good will happen.

it always gets worse before it gets better. hang in there and wait it out. try going above and beyond in your job. you have to distinguish yourself from the rest of people. the girlfriend part is hard. my last girlfriend and i were getting along great and we broke up after a bad night. it was her fault and she didn't want the chance of it happening again so she had to leave. just tell your girlfriend what you told us here and make sure she knows how you feel. you can't make someone like or love you, but you can do your best to let them know how you feel. maybe she just wants to hear it from you. good luck in anything, and come around here anytime you need help. this forum is one of the most helpful ones i've ever seen. On Thursday of this week, the house is suppose to vote on a bankruptcy option that would allow some to "cram down" their principle and interest rates by a judge. While I do not support this option for those who bought over their heads, "flipping", etc, you seem to be one of the many hard working citizens that thru no fault of their own is paying the price for those who did. Take the option if needed.
Hmm, not to minimize how you feel right now , but this to will pass. When it does, think of the possibilities of a new start. Life sucks then there is tomorrow. Good Luck.

First off, don't take your advice from a 13-year-old . . . Assume the worst is going to happen - that you will get let go one way or another. That way you can prepare now instead of waiting around for the uncertainty to become certain. If it doesn't happen, you'll be in a better position anyway because of the exercise. Start looking for a job now. Look anywhere you can. That resume you put together the last time you applied for a position will take you more time to update than you think. Stop spending. Cut out the excess in your life. You can find a better auto insurance quote, cell phone plan, internet provider, etc. Get a roommate or several if you have to. Start selling crap you don't need. Craig's list costs nothing, I think, to post. Some poor sap will have extra cash to part with. Take it. Your friend is gone. There is nothing anyone can say or do to make that not so, or make that pain any better. You need some kind of distraction, but it will never feel better. Your girlfriend may be gone, or she may not. Chicks change their minds all the time like it's okay to put guys through hell and because they have vaginas, it makes it okay. -Okay, it does make it okay, but only if they come back with the vagina intact. Otherwise, when you get tired of no vagina, you'll eventually go looking for replacement vagina. You should go looking for vagina anyway. Look, did you have sex with her? If the answer is "yes" then you won. Well, it may not feel that way, but when you add her to the running tally of the total number of chicks you've banged, she'll be a number. Or not, in which case you should actively try to get her back. What you can't do with any of this is sit still and dwell on it. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"

Cantrip, somehow ur advice makes very good sense. It's kind of like the advice my brother gave me after I broke up with my gf. He said "dude, just go bang some chicks." As crass as it was, after I did, I felt a lot better. Here are a couple things I have to say.. -GF: Like my brother said, bang some [clean] chicks. Also when it comes to break ups, just talking about it helps a whole lot. Besides that I found time will heal lots. -JOB: Like someoe else said, start hedging your bets. Update your resume (good to do anyways) and start looking at options. If you get fired, you'll be ready. If you don't, no biggy. -HOUSE: I'd follow these gov't spending plans very close. There might be something there for you to take advantage of. You're definately not alone in this situation. -ETC: Like I said before, simply talking about your problems helps a ton. Even if you don't get the answer you want, it helps you mentally cope with what's happening and soften the blow. I would also recommend getting out of the house and doing something physical. Go jogging, take walks, ride a bike, etc., you'd be amazed how great you'll feel after building up a good sweat and getting some fresh air. Go out with your friends, even if its to stupid stuff. Tough times only make you a better person in the end. get your ass to mars

Sorry to hear that you are going through a rough time. I'm not going to repeat the sound advice already given, so I'll just add my additional 2 cents: Don't turn to alcohol or drugs to drown the pain. Sure it works momentarily, but it will only make it worse in the long run. Take the time to deal, and keep reminding yourself that one needs pain in order to fully realize and understand the experience of joy. Without any contrast, life would be numb.

Life isn't exactly better but I'm getting a handle on it now. On the job front, not much I can do but keep my eyes open and start looking for new jobs. I have awhile still and I've been wanting to get a job in Seattle already so I'm trying to think of this as just further motivation to get on that. My friend who was dying is still dying. His family doesn't want to turn off life-support, the doctors are hoping he comes out of his semi-coma-braindead state enough that he can give consent. Either way he's expected to die at any time, he's semi-stabilized for now at least. My girlfriend has still dumped me, but our relationship is effectively not much different, the one time we saw each other since we had a great time together. I'm not sure what that's about or where it is going, I doubt it is going anywhere though. I'm hoping we can set aside all the serious shit for awhile and just have a relationship focused on having fun together since we seem to be good at that part of things. Like I said though, I'm doubtful but it's hard to tell what's up because despite dumping me things don't seem so different as far as our interaction goes. Anyways, in the meantime I'm determined to try dating. I've never been a "go out on dates with random girls" kind of guy so this is something very new for me. I'm going to try and take up Cantrip and Muffman's advice on finding new vagina to devour. Any advice would probably be helpful because I've never been that kind of guy. If nothing else finding some other hot girl to fuck will give me a better outlet to drown my sorrows in than drugs and booze. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I'm not that type of guy either, as I'm not too keen on picking up women at bars. But who's going to pass up on some action? What type of work do you do? I live in Seattle, and do have some friends in various industries...

I looked into the stuff they passed recently, it only applies to mortgages from before 2009. I had to refi my place as part of the whole getting divorced thing, I'm past the cut off for help now. On a more positive note, I might have a date tonight/tomorrow with a crazy hot girl, she looks like a model. Only prob is she is kind of young, but whatever. I'd been planning on spending the entire weekend with my ex, since it's just like we never broke up except that's not going very well. We talked about it a bit last night, didn't really go anywhere good. Mostly because she can't give a straight answer, or a definitive one. We still have fun together and all that but from what she said it sounds like she basically is going to do whatever the fuck she wants as long as she thinks it makes her happy at the time. Everyone I've talked to about this keeps telling me that she is a selfish immature bitch who doesn't deserve me and that I should run away immediately, which is really uplifting because I love her too much to run away. I'm coping I guess. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I asked my buddies if there were anything in IT available (at Nintendo, Microsoft, F5, and Amazon) , and most said no or just gave me the "look at the website" line. Sorry man.
As far as the girlfriend issue, your friends are right. She is being completely selfish. You should have a say on what you want out of your relationship. That doesn't mean you should cut things off completely with her, nor should you put your life on hold for her either. Having been in a similar situation myself, I remember it taking me a while to figure things out and I finally ended it. I did however keep in touch with her and we still are friends to an extent. What I recommend is to ask yourself what you want, and once you figure it out, you'll know it and not just be thinking it (which is it seems is where you are at now).

Thanks for asking around, I appreciate it a lot. The job market is craptastic and getting worse unfortunately. As far as the ex girlfriend goes, part of what lead us here is that I wanted more than she could give right now. At this point though what I want is a few small steps beyond what we have now, we're effectively a couple regardless of how she wants to label it. I'm fairly content with the current situation for now, there are aspects of it that I'm very unhappy about but she is who she is. I've made what I want now clear so I'm kind of just in a holding pattern, waiting for her to fuck someone else, come back to me a little further, or for me to meet someone who I can replace her with (to be brutally honest). In a lot of ways it's been good, she has really opened my eyes up to some of my own issues, and taught me just how cruel another person can be despite love. On saturday my friend died. This morning I just got to work and there was an email from my dad. I've not heard from him in a few years now. It says my grandfather died. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.
