As many of you know, I tend to decorate. My house is more of a night club than a living space. I like lights. Well, today I completed my latest project. Big thanks to Nigel for donating his coffee table. The first photo is the bare minimum. The second is an above shot of pre-fish. Third is a top view of fish in their final tank... floating in a bag. Fourth is a view from my couch. So here's what it is. I have a few 4' black light tubes positioned around my living room. Inside the tank there are a bunch of UV reactive plants and decorations, all there to enhance the living space of my genetically modified "GloFish" (glofish.com) They are UV reactive as well. Super awesome. We only have eight right now, and they are small... but the guy at Petco recommended starting with a few to let the tank adjust, then add more. So, we have three greens, three reds, and two oranges. (Also, at $7 a piece, that was all I could afford). However, I think it's totally worth it. I'll add more pics once I open the bag and let them out, as well as when the table is finally back on the enclosure.

Ok, here are the fish released and the coffee table finally put back together. I'd post night pictures, but as you can see from the quality of these, my cell phone camera sucks. I'll try and get someone with a good camera to get some shots for you later. As someone who works in a fishing environment, let me give you a few pieces of advice. Don't over feed the fish, simply because the more the poop, the more the PH balance changes. Get a Pacosamus fish to help eat the crud that builds up in the tank and save you time cleaning it. Do you have a cat? Simply because I want to see it ram its head trying to catch a fish. My parents had a cat, it was hilarious. King of Jeans I wanna be like Buddylee 007 for life

He showed me what food to get and told me how to feed them. He also explained that I should ignore the instructions on the food can. I plan on getting a couple of them poop suckers. Thanks for the advice!

a few choice pieces of advice.....Oh, and I currently work and have worked previously at a local fish store ( we're the smug ones who make fun of the Petco's and Petsmarts ). My record number of tanks at any one time was 34 tanks ( from 1 gallon up to my 125 gallon moray eel tank) as well as 25 herptile enclosures ( I was breeding leapord geckos and panther chameleons). Mind you the moray eel I was showcasing in the larger tank was a fish I had been offered 4 grand for at one point. I'm not saying this to show off, I'm saying this to tell you I tend to know my stuff about fish and some herptiles.
Ok, first off, zebra danios don't really require a heater unless you're cheap on your heating bill and it gets cold in the house (I'm in southern cali, we don't have to worry about indoor temperature shifts too much.) The only reason this is a biggy is primarily just the fact that its in the tank/table being an eyesore. The other reason this can matter is that higher water temp = higher metabolism = more fish excriment = more algae = more work on your ass to take care of it. This is actually the same as the second point. Don't put in a pleco. Though they're bitching looking < do a look up on a true zebra pleco L046, not the immitators-just keep in mind we're currently retailing them for $449.99> they are essentially a cow. A lot of people think of them as poop eaters, they aint. They're a cow. They eat the algae and turn it into more shit. If you've ever seen a cow eat, the conversion rate isn't very good. A lot of grass makes a lot of shit, without all that much of the grass getting actually used up. Same is true for the pleco's. The other argument for them is that they eat leftover food. Well....this is sort of a dumb argument cause the only way to have leftover food is if you feed to much. Danio's (glofish) aint dumb fish, if there's food on the bottom they'll eat it. Only reason they wouldn't is if they're overfed to an extreme. This means your putting more food in than they're able to eat in about 45 seconds once a day (or every other, doesn't make much difference.)
However, the tank is bitching. California law doesn't let us get glofish for good or bad so its cool you got some.
The only other note I'd make for the tank is that your sole source of oxigenation is coming from the output of your filter <looks like a fluval from the pics?> Though it won't look as pretty, ensure that the output is causing some form of disruption across the surface of the water. This is what will actually cause gaseous exchange between the interface by the expansion and contraction of the surface area. Basically you want to see ripples. You can always adjust this during a party and then correct it after (the next day if I'm assuming properly about your parties).
But yea, fricking awesome. If I get some scrap acrylic, want me to make you a wall mounted one?

I am cheap on our heating, and while it remains 70 degrees from 5am to noon, and from 5pm to midnight, it can drop in the midday and night time depending on how warm it is outside. I live in seattle. In the winter it drops to the 20s. We're still seeing the occasional day in the 30s or 40s. While it is usually 50-70 in the house, the heater is needed I think to prevent dramatic temp changes. Not really an issue in the summer, but winter is killer. The filter is a marineland 220. Yes. Yes I want a wall mounted one.

Anyway, after a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, I present to you the final product! Dick Cheney took this captivating photo with his nice ass camera. This is what all my hard work amounted to. WDF? attached the following image(s): 8.jpg (46kb) downloaded 59 time(s).

Please note that they are incredibly hard to photograph (the fish) as they are so fast. So... it's more of an "in person" kinda thing. But you get the idea. Also, I have ripples!
