I need work! Did this today. Dug out the pond. Cement underneath. Pond liner over that. Filled with water and set up a makeshift stream with a water pump. Pond is far from done. This was a simple setup to test the pump out. Eventually I want to make a volcano mountain thing in the back fence corner and put a red light in it. Then get one of those things that emits that sound frequency to turn water into mist. Have the water come out of the top of the volcano thing, down a river thing of sorts (figured I'd bury some of those plastic riverbeds, and have it eventually hit the pond. mist at the top of the volcano and red light for "lava." But considering the liner was $11/foot, this will be a more long term project. I also need a stronger pump because this one is lacking in water pumping. It works, but not great. I really like the simplicity to your pond, Whut. The flamingo and bamboo in the back give it a nice touch. I hope all goes well with your endeavors. =D DredNaught wrote:In regard to the ladies... or lack thereof: Just remember that it's about quality, not quantity. GLHF though, already looks like it's going places. This is an important quote. Anyone know of an easy way to make said volcano?

easy way to make the volcano? Not really....complex way? Maybe
Start with a pvc pipe in the middle, and then build out using chicken wire or a fine mesh. Use this to essentially "sculpt"the volcano and a trough down one face that you want to have the water run. Then put it in place, making sure that the PVC pipe is free of obstructions and that you have some sort of a base (so you can access the pipe to shove a hose up for the water flow/wires for the light, whatever) Then start pouring on the concrete. It'll be a bitch and take some trial and error, but it'll work. You'll have to add a sealer to the concrete when you're done obviously, but it'll do the trick.

Thanks for the advice! Any way to do it without concrete?

I think you've done a great job, as well. I am planning to build a pond myself! Did you provide a cushion barrier between the concrete and the lining? As for the volcano, draw a sketch really quick to post here, and then I might be able to suggest some solutions.

So I just bought a super cheap 800 gallon/hour pump, but I have low expectations. Anyone have a pump they'd like to sell me cheap? Or know of a cheap way to do this?

If concrete is not an option then consider fiberglass. you know, make it like a speaker box. make a subframe with metal/particle board stretch a polyester cloth over it then add the polyester resin. you may need to add some actual fiberglass to give it extra strength then just let it harden and it should be nice, light weight and water proof. you will want to give it a little more texture though... perhaps just adding shelves to place rocks on?

Wood, Wireframe, Molding clay, Plaster of paris, paint = Volcano. Will let you create a more natural looking surface than fiberglass (and wont fucking itch as much when doing it) Or what I would do (depending on how big you want to make it) is get some big commercial styrofoam blocks, and glue them together. Then shave and shape them into your volcano shape. drill out the center for your water pipe. also drill out any electrical paths for lighitng wires, etc. Then use some molding clay for detailing, and then apply plaster of paris to weatherproof. Airbrush paint. Volcano. Quote:
