I'm in Souther Afghanistan now as opposed to Eastern. The base I am at is run by the brits if you google "Bastion" you may have also heard it on the news. It has only been attacked once a few years back so I'm told so the base itself is very safe. The surrounding area however is the hotbed for the re-emerging Taliban.
So far the new setup I built here is doing well but we have a few places to go that might be sketchy so I have held off doing the recons on thim till I can get a military escort. Apache or Blackhawk with some guns to escort my helicopter to the new sites for the first time.
Other than that I hope to be back around the 9thish of July. With final pay and Bonus in the bank account. I look forward to staying well away from what I think will be a drawn out and difficult situation developing here. It is far from over.
I am glad I took this job as it opened my eyes to the dynamics of the peoples struggle in Afghanistan for any sort of security in thier lives. Its like mad freaking Max out there beyond the control of any coalition forces.
