I've read a couple of threads, and I've been thinking about it, and now I'm posting it for you guys to pick my brains.

All the pDs people I've seen so far pretty much play TF2 and L4D exclusively. Its quite unterstandable, they're both freakishly good games. New stuff keeps getting added to refresh the gameplay and whatnot, so their lifespans have been waay extended.

But whats next? What would you guys be willing to play for countless hours? These games are only ones that I've played enough to see the good replay value. Suggest your own, they don't have to be FPS games, but that's all I'm putting up. I personally have a RTS fetish, and anything with RPG elements can't go wrong in my book.

Far Cry 2
Battlefield: Bad Company
Killing Floor

Yeah, its not a big list. I'm not burned out on TF2 yet...but I'm feeling it. I'd kind of like a backup plan so that if I move on to another game, I can bring along people I actually know to play with.

As far as RTS games go...

Company of Heroes
Pretty much any C&C game
Homeworld 2
Civ4
Starcraft (in anticipation of SC2)

Recently, I've been playing a lot of Sim City 4 offline. That game freaking rocks.

I'd explode with candy if we all played UT3.

See, we aren't really competitive, nor is {pDs} necessarily perceived as such in the public eye. So we just play whatever. I know a bunch of us have COD4 and COD:WAW. I know a couple have UT3. On and on and on. If we rolled BF2, that'd be kind of neat. I'd play that.

Whatever will be, will be. TF2 is certainly the main, L4D being more ancillary to that. If other things pop up, then hey, that just might be fun.

I'm game (see what I did there?) for the occasional round of CoD4 or UT3, we just need to find a place to play. I can't speak for them, but I doubt that our friends over at [CMS] would mind us fragging on their CoD servers, especially if we through some donations dollars there way.

But as far as the UT3 I see a couple options:
1. When we set up a round we nominate someone to host locally (not ideal as that kind of organization rarely happens)
2. Hosted on a community members spare machine (better, possible complications)
3. Get WDF to host it (not ideal since we are coming up short on operating costs as it is, and there isn't a large segment of WDFnews that would use it)
4. Friend another clan that has an UT3 server (best, but difficult).

Thoughts?

I know we're not all that competitive...well, I know Mr. 12 is and I'd really like to play in a tourney some day...:sigh:

Anyhoo, I'm trying to cop a feel on everyone's gaming tastes. Thank you for letting me grope a bit.

Your pokerstars thing says its broken.

Edit: DAMN YOU! You ninja'd my post.

I'd play COD4, and I'd tolerate CODWAW. I'm not going to buy them unless there's a serious push that way. They're pretty...but not all that good a shooter, IMO.

UT3 beginner bots kicked my butt multiple times when I tried it out. >_<

I've always believed that the best dynamic that this community has comes from the idea that we're a niche. I left pDs a long time ago, but I never really "left" because there are aspects of this community that you won't find anywhere else. I never really considered any of those aspects to be competitive gaming. I love that I can be part of the community but not have to be in pDs, which gives me the ability to still be part of the family but be able to get my competitive fix at a place where there is a lot of commitment to competition.

It's just a different set of priorities. Would I like to see more games in the future that are hosted by WDFnews? Sure, but I don't think that there could be any official "branching" under WDF's monthly bills. I feel bad that he takes on such a huge debt. I can understand that he doesn't host a lot of games he may not like himself, since he's paying for it.

CMS would be more than happy to share our servers with you. We have both cod4 and w@w servers. A handful of our guys have UT3 and if we were promised some regular fraggin, we would be more than happy to get our UT3 server back up.

I don't know if it would be anymore that a few pDs'ers and WDF'ers, and if it would be worth it to you guys to do it. I can tell you that I'd play and and send a few dollars your way a month in return, but it may very well end up with you paying $50 or so a month for no one's real benifit.

I know that this does not really relate to online gaming as a community but a few good games to pick up are Fallout 3 and Mass Effect. These are the best RPGs to come along in a while and Mass Effect 2 will be here shortly. As for online gaming, I don't really have many recommendations as I am not a fan of most online games.

Play Eve with Murdy, myself and a few others.

They always have trial offers for free so test it out and see if you like it. It takes a bit of time to get used to as the learning curve is high and there are many things to learn before you go off to get your ship blown to pieces.

The thing is, you can't really get people here to play MMOs or RTS or whatever together and expect it to become a major part of the community because everyone here is pretty much primarily an FPS player, with room for some exceptions. Which would be fine if there were a lot of good FPSs out there but there's not. TF2 is really the best contemporary FPS, CoD is pretty much the least repugnant turd out there. Anyways, here's a list of things that were tried and failed:

WoW
EVE Online
Ogame
Sins of a Solar Empire: Maybe you guys still play it but I never seem to hear about it. I tried it and didn't like it.
Maybe more?

Also, these games seemed to be pretty successful in their time but got dropped due to financial woes:
HL2:DM (my favorite)
HL2:CTF
DoD:S
CSS
Hidden (I think)
Eternal Silence

I've never played UT3, I don't really pay attention to it because I never was a UT player. That's not to say I don't like it, but I was always more into Valve and Blizzard. I may play it if there's communal interest. I'm always up for playing WaW but ever since the Sniper/Spy update my interest in TF2 has been revived. I guess I could play CoD4 also if there's communal interest. It kinda sucks though, plus MW2 is coming out soon.

No games are really tickling my pickle as of late... as least in terms of shooters.

I keep hoping the gaming industry can come up with some new shooter that we can all get behind. BF:Heroes is not that game for me. UT3 is not that game for me. W@W is not that game for me.

With source games, we've been pretty successful. I know the source server backend pretty much like I know the back of my peni.... hand.

Sins of a solar empire is a game that I wish more of you would get into. It supports up to 10 players per game and is really, really fun once you take the time to learn it (I spent two weeks on it hating it before I began to like it... now I'm hooked for life).

A handful of us have it. So... if you want to get into some RTS stuff (which are my personal favorite games) then we could look into that.

I think TF2 will carry us into whatever shooter Valve releases next, or whatever other FPS comes out that's worth a shit.

As for Noobina's suggestions, we could utilize their resources to sort of call them home for our other game needs. However, it would take a commitment to build up some serious WDFNews.com presence on their servers. If you guys are willing to do that, I'm willing to endorse it.
