4chan is probably the most remarkable contemporary study of group psychology. We could talk for days, months, years, about the effects of anonymity, depersonalization, and the sheer numbers of 4chan's regular visitors on the behavior of them. I think it's fascinating how memes evolve with such speed and how capable a large group of unskilled users are with internet attacks. I think the anti-scientology period was pretty interesting. I can't say I really care that much about scientology, I mean I am against all organized religion but it's infeasible to go out and demote all religions. I like how /b/tards refer to themselves as 'anonymous', because that's really the nature of that group. There may be plenty of divisions between users but there's no concrete distinction, and there's not much of a central leadership. I find it funny how a lot of /b/tards complain about "newfags" and say oh they're ruining all these memes, they're giving too much publicity by doing the scientology protests, they're killing /b/, etc., and generally thinking they're clinging to originality. But the reality is when you have a group like this, with no leadership, the group evolves, whatever the sentiment of the majority is becomes the new face. Has anyone seen the whole first season of Ghost in the Shell:SAC? Remember the laughing man? Anonymous is basically the laughing man copycats. Who's to say if the original really is an original? Who's to say the copycats aren't the laughing man? It also reminds me of people who complain about new words being added to the dictionary, or smartasses who say "Actually, fag means a bundle of sticks!" or "Gay means happy!" No it doesn't. However the majority of people define a word or what they consider a word is the de facto standard. The dictionary isn't some package handed down by a universal and neutral judge. We made it, we can change it. The most striking and laughable contradiction I've ever heard is when /b/tards refer to something as "OC" (Original Content). The reason it's so funny is because 90% of what's considered "OC" is a pop culture reference/joke. 4chan... a lot of the stuff that came out of 4chan made me laugh. I won't pretend to be above it. I used to visit the website regularly and still do occasionally. Its memes have entered my vocabulary. I usually keep tabs on 4chan because I'm deeply fascinated with and a large proponent of swarm intelligence and universal information.

I think Lead summed up a lot of what I've thought of /b/ very succinctly. I agree with a good chunk of it. Especially as someone who's been to a scientology protest... it's amazing the things that have transpired from absolutely zero leadership. Absolutely astounding. Oh, and bragr, srsly, Rules 1 and 2. Fuck off. Die. Etc. /shrug. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

I won't deny it. The crap that comes out of those websites make me laugh. My only problem with it is the amount of hate and filth that also comes out. I say no, because there were funny things before 4chan and /b/. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

The stuff there is pretty hilarious, but most of the people I have met that visit 4chan more then I play tf2 (which is a lot) are complete trolls, and pretty immature, and seem to think they know it all. I can't lie though....some funny shit has come from 4chan, but I'm going to agree with Muff on this one, things have been funny before, and people werent' such douches about it.
