Well, there's that. And I was going to make some sort of joke about you, Spaniard, but I guess I'll hold off on that.

I guess that I'm just a realist. Months later, and people wouldn't still be alive. Plus, the human body just isn't made in a way that would lend itself to morphing quite that much. Over a period of years, there are any number of body modifications that can be made, but not months. With no food or water. In a hole that was created by an earthquake.

Just too many holes in the story for believability.

1. It's a horror story, since when do many of those make ANY sense.

2. It is a horror story that taps into basic and primal human fears, claustrophobia, darkness, the unknown. There are no stupid monsters, ghosts, or weirdos wit chainsaws here. I say the writer was either very intelligent or very intuitive.

3. The holes were not created by an earthquake, they were created thousands of years ago by cavemen, the entire explanation is in the story, the earthquake just revealed them again.

4. It's a fucking horror story, it was implied that there was a supernatural otherworldly element to those holes. But if you want to go up your own ass with explanations, I'd say it was ancestral memory that drew people to those holes, the place where their great great great etc ancestors died.

5. It seems like you and Frostbite are the kind of folks that can't suspend their disbelief long enough to enjoy a good horror story, even one that is generally more believable than most.

What kind of joke were you going to make? It's ok you can say it, I was just fooling with you, it's all in good fun.

Oh, hon - I'm terrified of small spaces. I just can't suspend my belief in reality long enough to believe that particular story.

Jurassic Park, however, scared the shit out of me when I was younger. I didn't care about the dinosaurs, but the fact that someone would be crazy enough to actually do something that stupid scared the crap out of me. And here I married a scientist.

Plus - just to poke a few more holes into the horror story: How were those holes created? If they were created by man - who on earth could create those? It would be humanly impossible to create them.

How were those people still alive after months without food or water?

With the amount of exploration/meddling that humans have done in the world, how were those not found earlier? If there was some sort of supernatural draw to those holes, the mountain would not have kept them "safe" from being found. As evidenced in the graphics, people would do anything to get to their holes (and yes, that is what she said).

Much love, Spaniard!

I didn't say i didn't like it , i didn't say i did like it

I just said i don't see anything scary about it , odd yes

I think it would be more spooky for me if they told more about the motive of the "draw" or what happens to them after

Like it was a punishment ?

I want to go see a horror movie with Mrs. Crawdad on my left and Frostbite on my right.

I want them to giggle everytime something happens, and say "That so wouldn't happen" everytime an action scene unfolds.

And then I'll kill myself because my life will truly be pain.

I won't watch horror movies. They scare me to death.

I watched Night of the Creeps when I was 6 years old and it scarred me from horror movies for the rest of my life. Crawdad loves them, and always has to talk me into going to see them with him.

I love Stephen King novels, though.

This story just didn't scare me.

First of all I said maybe 167 thousand times (rough estimate) that it is a horror story and you are supposed to suspend your disbelief so I hope I don't have to just repeat myself every time you *poke a hole* and then ask me to answer to it.

Secondly, I didn't write the story, but you directly ask me as if I did.

Thirdly, just because you don't know how to do something like that, you assume that somebody else might not?

Fourthly, you have to lend a bit of the story to the supernatural. I mean you don't watch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and goes "Pfft people totally can't fly" do you? It's quite obviously supposed to to have a strong supernatural element, else he would not be having flashbacks to his past life during the stone age or be mystically drawn towards his hole. It's not supposed to be realistic that his body would bend that way. It's like saying you don't like ghost stories because ghosts are highly implausible. That ain't the point.

Fifthly, do you really know for sure that the person in the last frame was still alive, the Japanese language is so complex that they are able to actually write out detailed sound effects. The "drr drr drr" could have been their attempt at translating the sound of a body slowly sliding forward through the hole from momentum, inertia, and pressure. I'm just throwing out any one of a hundred possible theories here. You don't really know, but deep down inside a rasping fear tells you that oh that person is still alive and has experienced horrors beyond imagining.

Sixthly, you think that we should have already found a series of holes dug into the side of a mountain up on a hiking trail that had been buried for thousands of years under tons of rock and erosion? We are discovering new shit in this world every single day, I don't understand your comment, and you said your husband was a scientist now? Nobody was drawn to anything until it was uncovered and you could actually see the holes. It even said in the story, "I saw the holes on TV and was drawn here."

A lot of the complaints seem to stem from, "Well the story doesn't give details as to how this or that happened, so I'm going to jump to the conclusion that anything that isn't immediately explained or I can't explain is false." What you have to understand that this story is told in a very traditional Japanese style called Slice of Life. In Slice of Life storytelling basically.. actually instead of going into a long winded description I'll just link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slice_of_life_story. You basically experience what a character/s experiences and know no more than they do, this also leaves the spectator free to speculate about what goes on beyond the end of the story and fill in other details with their imagination. Children of Men is an excellent example of this style of story telling.

Frostbite, you are the one that needs to calm down, I wasn't mad at all, me and Craw are just having a back and forth.

A valid point. But horrors beyond imagining? It's a hole in the rock. Stretching their bodies in crazy ways. Unless there are flesh-eating worms (which, hell, there could be!), I'm guessing not a whole lot of horrors are happening in that particular body-shaped hole.

Another valid point. However, when the holes were covered, the girl was forced to uncover her hole and be sucked in.

Oh yeah - and just how would a person make it into a human sized hole that was just big enough for them? You can't step into it, as you can't bend your knees or you won't fit!

Maybe it is just the style of storytelling. I wasn't a huge fan of Children of Men, either.

For many the thought of that hole and what lies within it's darkened interior is far more horrifying than any torture that could be visited upon their body.

Mrs.Crawdad wrote:

She had already seen the hole and felt it's pull, that could not be undone, the creature could not just simply be put back into Pandora's box. You could also still clearly see the hole, it just had a handful of rocks hastily stuffed into its entrance.

Mrs.Crawdad wrote:

That's part of the story, the thought that the hole is so perfectly made for them that it almost just pulled/sucked them in once they stepped into it like a Jello mold.

The Shining was the last good horror movie.

Actually it's pretty much the only good horror movie besides the Exorcist.

Your missing the point of horror movies if you think that just because its not real or supernatural means its good

a good horror flick i like , One that draws you in because it feels real , how ever unlikely it may be even the way out there ones can be scary as shit

Silent hill when i played it in the dark freaked me out , it is by far one of my fav games because when i hear static on the radio or church bells i think of it

The story was ok but it just felt to rushed, They introduce a character not long enough to really get to know them or feel anything for them or there well being , If they streched out the story and maybe focused on making the lure of the depths seem a bit unnatural and let us know more of the characters besides guy ...guy meets girl , guy loses girl lol

I have to thank Spaniard for keeping me busy during our school's open house and Back to School night.

This was a terrific way to spend the time between school and the start of the open house!

And I still don't like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon!

I did, however, enjoy the Matrix movies. And they flew in those!
