No there's a difference between a generalizing stereotype ( ex: irish are drunk ) to having a subtle bigoted undertone. And that's what this film has. The movie did not make one clear evident joke about the people but instead by making them look ugly and dim witted, used them as clowns and laughing stocks. It was obvious that the director was trying to get a laugh at how unnatractive and stupid the people looked. That is more of an insult then just telling a joke. Ever seen "All that and Rabbit Stew"? It was a film made by Looney Toons, staring Bugs Bunny. It portrayed a black man as a slow witted hunter.with big lips, dark skin, white lips and other such characteristics that we all know is part of a rascist theme meant to get a laugh. Well, this film comes very close to doing that.
actually you guys a both wrong... its all a matter of interpretation... stereotypes seem to be derived from negative prejudicial sentiments, whther they are seen as humourous is dependent on the receiver. there are many Irish who would knock your lights out if you said that to 'em... particularly going back to the no blacks, no dogs, no irish shit that happened in engerland (i.e. that prejudice WAS derived from blatant racism, read our history)... yet i don't give a shit, and agree... so there, nubs :p yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

yes i have seen that lunnytoons episode and the diffrence is its one man not all black people r like that...im no racist but i like to get a good laugh about all people like i love white trash shit and how every one is tailor park shit..i think its funny i think u just r taking it the wrong way fubar I like what you guys put while I was away, but I think it was best that I changed it.

I saw the movie like 2 weeks ago on opening night. It beyond surpassed my expectations. As for those saying its racist..... half of my family is 100% mexican, and I dont think any of them would take offense when watching that.  AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

I heard this movie sucked major ass also. But I think you need to lighten up about the rascism thing, I don't think they were trying to be rascist, just selling a movie about something that there really isn't a movie for already: mexican wrestling. If its somewhat funny, they get rich, that's the whole point of the thing.

lol i hardly think mexicans in a catholic monastery is a representation of the entire mexican people. i think it's hilarious jack black is trying to pass himself off as mexican. haven't seen the movie though and won't till i can download a good version. anyway fubar i'm not mexican, but i am peruvian, i think you need to lighten up man. take a joke as its meant to be taken and move on. i can see where you're coming from, but chillax man, its just a comedy. I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I can take a joke just as good as the other guy, but sensitivities run high when you sence something that just isn't right. This goes beyond a just a simple joke, the movie has an underlying tone which purpose was quite clear to me, make the mexicans look ugly and dumb, and we'll get a laugh. It wasn't quite in the open, so I guess many of you didn't see it that way , but to me it was clear as day. And don't tell me I'm misinterpreting the movie, I know what I saw and that shit ain't right. Look, I was pretty excited to see this movie, I even dragged my brother to see it with me. If you didn't know, they filmed the movie in the exact same town where both my parents are from. I mean, what are the chances they are going to film a movie in a remote town in a remote state where practically my whole family is from. So I just had to go see it. But excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I saw what they were trying to achieve with my people, it was so obvious to me. Maybe the film makers didn't have racist intentions but what they did is fucking ignorant and insensitive. This same filmmaker is the same one who did Napolean Dynomite, and in that movie there is a Mexican character who he portrays just the same way as he did on this movie. Trying to take get a laugh at the funny looking mexican with the funny accent. But yet after watching an interview he did where he proclaimed to love the mexican people and culture, he fucking makes them look like fucking dirty ass imbeciles. It just doesn't sit right with me.

I think your misunderstanding the movie, nothing against you. Who decides whether the people in the movie are "ugly" maybe you think they're ugly, but how do you know everone that sees the movie is going to think they're ugly. Look, i'm hawaiian, and when i see a comcercial saying, "try our knew hawaiian steak, WITH PINEAPPLE" Just cause they add pineapple doesn't mean it's hawaiian. Now when I see that i don't go, "WHY THE HELL ARE THEY BEING SO RACIST, A PINEAPPLE IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE SOMETHING HAWAIIAN?!?!?! WTH!!!" No, you have to understand that if you think something is some way, that's your interpretation, not everyone elses.
Maybe i'm missing the whole point, but...i don't know.
