I started writing a reply to Endyss' last post after washing a sleeping pill down with a glass of wine. I'm not sure what happened after that. I'm guessing I've got whatever I wrote still up on my computer at home, I'll find out tonight. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

All your posts so far have been with sleeping pills, and without them you're actually a social conservative Huckabee supporter, right? :D HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

There is at least one post that I wrote in the middle of the night while very drunk. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote: Let's cut the tripartisan bullshit for a moment and explain to the laymen here what exactly is meant in the Rolling Stones article: Quote:On Tuesday, March 11th, 2008, somebody — nobody knows who — made one of the craziest bets Wall Street has ever seen. The mystery figure spent $1.7 million on a series of options, gambling that shares in the venerable investment bank Bear Stearns would lose more than half their value in nine days or less. What series of options was this? What exactly are these "options" and within a series how do they differ? And how does an option specify a bank will LOSE value? silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

Here's an easy way to understand what's being talked about here. From Wikipedia: Quote:...an option is a contract between a buyer and a seller that gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or to sell a particular asset (the underlying asset) on or before the option's expiration time, at an agreed price. That means, under an option contract, a person might agree to either buy or sell a stock for, say, $50 per share, regardless of how the stock performs, for some amount of time (say, 1 year). That can be good or bad, depending on whether the stock goes up or down and whether you're the one with the option to buy or the obligation to sell it. That's a simplification, but more to the point of this article: Wikipedia again wrote:Long put = A trader who believes that a stock's price will decrease can buy the right to sell the stock at a fixed price (a put option). He will be under no obligation to sell the stock, but has the right to do so until the expiration date. If the stock price at expiration is below the exercise price by more than the premium paid, he will profit. If the stock price at expiration is above the exercise price, he will let the put contract expire worthless and only lose the premium paid. A "long put" is a kind of option contract where someone agrees to sell a stock (usually back to the company) for x price (say $50 again) for some amount of time, regardless of how the stock actually performs. So if the stock in question goes from $50 at the time of the option to $40, that guy can still force the buyer to pay $50 per share anyway, so he's made a $10/share profit. Based on a relatively cursory reading of the article, it sounds like somebody with insider information decided to cash in on the imminent demise of the company's involved. The legality and ethics of that could be a whole thread unto itself, but suffice it to say that someone making an option deal like what I described above right before the company to a nose-dive would stand to make a huge chunk of change. Teabaggers are toolbags: AFP can afford staffers, free food, 40+ busses, and "handmade" signs for a "spontaneous" protest because they are a front group funded by the billionaire neofascist Koch brothers and their friends. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.
