Microsoft is launching a promotion to allow college students with a .edu email (or students listed with other educational institutions and have different emails but are registered with Microsoft) the opportunity to get Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional editions for only $29.99. The deafault method is a download from their site upon release once you've purchased it, but you can also opt to get a hard copy of the disc mailed to you for a little extra and free shipping. http://win741.comI just bought professional 64 bit. It's also good to note that these purchases are retail versions of the operating system and not the student-licensed ones that require you to cease use upon graduation or exit of the school. I don't really know if it makes much of a difference if at all if you still use normal student versions after the license expires, but regardless, if you're worried about that you apparently don't need to. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

That's pretty tight. I'm still using the release candidate though and haven't had any problems with it yet, other than knowing it won't work with my version of protools I haven't installed yet...

You edit your BIOS, it isn't going to be void/null, it loads the cert/slic/ser at startup so it thinks its OEM, although its not. And since it is a BIOS mod, there is no way to fix it. Not true. They already released an update for Vista that disables the Paradox BIOS OEM hack with the SP1 update, and although there is a way to get around it (by either not updating the specific security feature), that doesn't change the fact that Microsoft will most likely change how the operating system reads the BIOS to determine if its a genuine windows OEM. They can't easily modify the BIOS since it's hard coded, you're right, but they can change how their operating system determines validity. I doubt once the retail version is released that it would do squat considering Microsoft already knows about the problem and can patch the exploit before it even begins with W7. So, good luck. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Well the paradox crack was a loader, it was easy to fix (well not to easy), they cant do anything about Hard coded BIOS mods, unless they want ot come up with a new activation method. But then all the new OEM computers would have to have the new activation method too. So it would be pointless. There is always going to be a way around it. I suppose there will always be a way, but I'd rather just buy it. I mean, it's $30. It doesn't even remotely resemble the prices they shipped with in the past, and I'd rather support a good marketing promotion like this than sell out on the pirate game. The thing that's just a little weird is that the price is actually reasonable, yet people still want to get it for FREEFREEFREE. Eventually these crackers and coders are going to force big companies like Microsoft to implement a shitty activation system that annoys the hell out of both pirates and legitimate license holders (look at the birth of SecureROM for some software applications perhaps). But hey, it would do it's job right? This is the type of price I'd like to see an operating system ship at more often. Therefore, I'm going to buy it. Stealing software takes the money out of the hands of the company and people that make it and forces them to spend even more money to counteract the piracy and most likely jacks the price up. To each their own, I suppose. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

In case no one else saw, you can get the Win 7 Professional version for the same price. Just click on the link that says "Need to join your school's network domain? Click here" after you enter you are verified, and you get to the order page"
Not a huge diff between the 2 but it a has a few more features
