I found out semi-recently that my girlfriend and her parents were in East Germany a few times, including in '89. They've got a piece of the wall tucked away somewhere. She used to have a bunch of East German toys but I think she said they gave them away in Mexico City or Paris or someplace. Makes me sad because I love weird shit like that, and they are probably worth some money as collectors items now. I don't remember the details exactly but her dad told me a story about getting hassled by the Stasi and he pulled the classic "I don't understand you but we would be wonderful friends if I didn't have to be going now" move, aka The Happy Yank. It works.

I was trying to get myself one of those world in conflict collectors edition games as it comes with a chunk of the Berlin wall. Also my cousin's father was German, so she has a chunk of the wall herself stashed away.
