Originally an idea I had for a mash-up, mine never came out right. Pitched the idea to 3Bam to put it together for me. As a result we got his remix of The Crystal Method's - Busy Child and Utah Saints - What Can You Do For Me?

His version was super neat and stuff and I enjoyed it and thanked him.

I then felt stupid for asking him to do it for me, so for the past week or so (since the whole ex-girlfriend thing), I've been hammering away at it to distract me. Ex thought it was stupid and was highly uninterested in it, so the first thing I did after she dropped me cold was to get cracking on it. I now feel it's at a point where I can share it.

I should mention that the base for this version is 3Bam's revision of my original effort (which sucked, but provided the base for me to take it and run with it). I also stole 3Bams "mashup" title. I spent 2 days trying to come up with an alternative but his was best so I flat out jacked it. So, thanks 3Bam. There are a substantial number of tracks, all of which have been cut to pieces and reassembled. There is also some original stuff in there. However, for reference, here are the original two tracks that I started with:

Anyway, it's at a point where I don't want to keep working on it without feedback. So... here it is.

I know I said I was going to take some time away from the forums to focus on healing, but I also need feedback for my hobby.

I especially liked some of the bass line harmonics I heard in it.
Pain is the touchstone of spiritual progress. Creation is an act of healing.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Need constructive (or deconstructive) criticism. Don't spare my feelings cause I'm all "BAAAAWWW" and stuff.

OK: Too many tracks at once became discordant at times. (I still liked the bass line harmonies)

Yeah, trying to work that out. I mutilated all of them, but I'm trying to get the balancing right.

So far 3Bam doesn't like the synths that come in at around 1:15 or so I believe, but I think they work. Curious about other opinions.

The potential is there but a few observations.

Just because it’s a drum machine, it doesn’t have to sound like one all the tiime.
Too repetitive, break it up in a few spots. You have some transitions, these would be a good spots for a short powerful off beat drum riff coupled with a strong bass counter or echo, maybe trailing slightly behind the drum beat. Give the audience something to look forward too. Transitions are too weak going into or coming out of.

Too many trailing voices into some of the transitions. You could try a clever single voice that offsets the drums/bass during the transition.

Its close, you just need to give it a punch and maybe shorten it a minute. Another idea, dance to it and you will be able to polish it.

Just a crazy thought and you would not want to jump into it without thinking it out a bit. About half way thru, a moment of silence or hanging diminishing note(see lights dimming) then entering with a strong deep male voice sample while changing to a fast moving powerful "jungle" beat(lights blast back on) for a bit.

Yeah, I was contemplating doing something like that. It would be helpful if you could point out times for me to review. I'm so used to how it sounds it's hard for me to picture where you're talking about. I could just pick a spot... but if you have a specific idea/suggestion I'd love to hear it.

Think I finally got the sound issue figured out. Sounded great in my living room... sounded like asshole in my car...

So that's up.

Just some ideas. Great place to break it up at 1:55 Lose section from 2:28 to 3:28. At 3:34 you have the right idea but need to snap the bass, a little more punchy and less analog. Also at this transition(syncopation) add another phrase like “that’s right” or “right here”
Love the part from 4:00 to about 4:25, but weakens too much with the female voice. This would probably be a good spot to transition back to the original style beat.
At 6:00 the piece loses it direction. I get the idea with the female voice @6:58 but maybe most of the sound drops leaving a very strong female belting it out and holding a note with a male voice saying “Yeah” and then a machine gun style drum and finish it off strong with some syncopation before coming to the end.

*Edit
I posted a song by Robert Plant called 29 palms a few months ago in the" What are you listening to...." section. I know it's a different style but listen to how the song changes in beat and feeling.
Also listen to how the bass and drums complement each other in the song below and give it a punch

Ok, I think I have something working toward what you were talking about at 1:55... It's not perfected yet, but it has potential.

As for trimming it down..... well.... so far it's 10 seconds shorter :|. However, after the break, there is a completely new section. So I actually cut out quite a bit from the middle. I kinda like the new part a lot. The transition out of it is crap though... out of time to work on it today, but I'll attach it here in case you want to take a listen.

I did, however, clean everything up a bit, especially at the end where it turned to mud.

Definitely starting to flow better. I can actually see a hot techo babe dancing to this. When you get time to work on it some, post it up.
