Sooo many descriptions in this article that make Putin out as a badass.
I support the idea of getting the young kids of Russia to fight crime and stop violence, and even having it's Prime Minister "embracing da hip and da hop", but...I really can't say I love it when a government gets wrapped up in what's popular and in with the youth. It sort of reminds me of how the Wii got popular, and everybody and their grandmother got on the gaming bandwagon only to fail to understand what gaming was even about. I'm not a purist, but the same respect goes with this topic as well. Either or, usually the end result of these government supported shenanigans is a lot of nationalism talk that sticks to a linear strand of subliminal messages. If Russia can prove me wrong, more power to them. They can have hip-hop if they want...you know, unless America wants to battle. =O
I did like this part a lot:
Putin, a self-described "jungle" kid hardened in fights on the mean streets of St. Petersburg, appeared on Muz-TV to hand out awards and declare that Russian hip-hoppers can help fight drugs and other problems of the youth.
But look at what I can do by GOING OUT OF CONTEXT:
Obama, a self-described "yes we can" kid hardened in fights on the mean beaches of Hawaii, appeared on MTV to hand out awards and declare that American hip-hoppers can help fight drugs and other problems of the youth.
