So, 3 demoman and 3 soldier weapons have been revealed. Now the question is: which class got the shaft, which came out on top. Now I know that there is one weapon yet to be revealed and either class can get it (only about 14k kills apart), but as of right now, which class is looking better?

Personally, I think the demoman got the better weapons. A decapitating sword, charging shield and uber-sticky gun? Yeah, that's a win.

I think those rocket jump boots were pretty clever, obviously would have fit both classes, but seems to fit just a bit better with the soldier's theme.

I will hold judgement on items considering I have only played one night and it was basically a big demo, solly fest. I did get all of teh soldier and some of the demo weaps. the Targe is the only weapon that frustrates me right now... Its not the charge, its teh protection it affords. I was using the direct hit rocket launcher and when you hit a demo with all 4 rockets and they are only at half life...I mean comon. I know they give up thier sticky launcher...but it makes them a freaking tank that can take more punishment than a heavy.
Like i said, i will hold my final judgement, as I was learning how to use the direct hit, and doing poorly early in the evening. I just couldnt seem to handle a Eyelander/targe combo demo on a one on one because I would run out of rockets in clip (even thoguh i was hitting and juggling the demo) and after that it was melee on melee, where the demo had teh advantage because of charge and the big fucking long reach sword.

The shield does not make the demo resistant against bullets however so when play resumes as normal and there are heavies and scouts everywhere, they will begin to die. A charge into a heavy spray will mean death for the demo. Although rockets and shovels do not do much a shotgun will still work somewhat. And btw this is called team fortress... so if you can not take him down by yourself... get a balanced team.

Thanks for the pro-Tip! Next time I come around a corner and there happens to just be one demo (or any other class) inbetween me and the capture point. I might think back and say:

"what would silverwasp do?"
"am I teamfortress enough?!".
"Instead of fighting this guy to win, shouldn't I be (?)getting(?) a balanced team?"

You sir, truly are a scholar and a gentleman....

Havn't had time to play in the last few days , but when I get back over the weekend this better not suck. Dunno how usefull the RJ boots might be for close in maps. But for longer maps maybe usefull. I'll have to get in and see what I can do.

The direct hit launcher what does it do?

The Direct HIT.

Nobody can deny that, measured solely by their ability to blow people into chunky clouds of tomato soup, rockets are an incredible force for good in the world. But with their wide blast radius, they are not a particularly terrific weapon for showing off your sharpshooting skills.

Until now. A high precision version of the standard-issue rocket launcher, the Direct Hit has been engineered from the ground up for Soldiers who have mastered the art of shooting at their targets instead of vaguely near them. Those of you looking to deal splash damage, stop reading now: the Direct Hit has a 70% smaller blast radius than a traditional rocket launcher. But the rockets that come out of this thing move fast and hit hard: 80% faster and with 25% more destructive force. Best of all, for you real sharpshooters, the Direct Hit guarantees mini-crits on airborne targets

....my own experience to add: if you can hit them directly at their feet...the rocket pops them up higher than the normal rocket launcher...with the intention that it sets you up beautifully for an air shot, which you get the crit for.

Yeah. The distance enemies are sent into the air is proportional to the damage dealt so the 25% more damage knocks them higher. Unfortunately, the extra damage seems to apply to rocket jumps as well.

I'm not terribly certain I like it more than the regular rocket launcher, or even like it as much. From the 30 minutes I used it last night before the Steam servers went screwy, I was doing well enough with it against other slow soldiers and demomen, but I have a feeling that once classes balance out again, the extra spread area is going to make the difference because it's much easier to juggle enemies and control choke points with the original rocket launcher. If I ever get the Gunboats (in my dreams, I still haven't gotten my first hat yet, even though I found one last night), the Direct Hit is going to look a lot more appealing.
