We had a lovely chat. He knew the cop I was friends with before he moved away. Amazing how nice he became when he found that out. I was not speeding. I have the stupid fucking sticker. I used my turn signal. I have no idea why he pulled me over. Once he was nice I told him I didn't have my current insurance info in paper format yet but I could pull up all the info on my phone. He was like, no problem I'm sure you have insurance. You should print it out though because not all cops will know you are cool.

Don't bitch. Drive through Washington with California plates and you will literally get pulled over 10 times. It department policy. I guess they all think we are drunk or smuggling drugs.

It's because Californians are always driving like they are being chased by the cops. Oregonians are worse though, but they don't get pulled over much because everyone in Washington hates Californians, especially after the energy deregulation that let Enron fuck you guys. The power companies in Washington had to run at full capacity to lessen your brownouts and got fucked out of millions in the process. Fuck California!

You must of missed when I got a ticket for having the wrong color sticker on my car. Or when I got a ticket for speeding in a schoolzone seconds after making the turn off my street by a cop hiding in my own alley. Or the other time I got a ticket for speeding in a schoolzone because they expanded the schoolzone but didn't take down the 35mph signs. Or the times when I've seen cops do crazy shit at protests. Everyone thinks I hate cops and always have negative interactions with them so I thought I'd post about a nice interaction I had.

The Gray Davis recall was such a joke. The Governator had a bunch of Enron people behind him, along with dickholes like Pete Wilson. The entire recall campaign was funded by them and Issa. Arnold has run California right into the ground, they're trying to sell off parks and shit at this point just so they don't have to fire more cops and teachers. The state treasurer was investigating the possibility of giving up statehood to become a territory again so that they could force more bailout money out of the feds. As shitty as Davis was he's 10x the governor Arnold has been. Admittedly, Californians have made the place nearly ungovernable through decades of selfishness and idiocy so it's pretty much inevitable that the whole thing had to come crashing down sometime.

I think he found it suspicious when I turned onto a road that few people turn on. He had been following me for about a mile beforehand and it was the first turn I could make to get him off my tail. I was going to this guys house to help him with computer problems, he lived down that road. As soon as I turned he put his lights on, got up on my ass, and hit me with his spotlight.
It's possibly related to the night before when he saw me at work, I work later than most people and was coming out of an area that's pretty out of the way and has a lot of expensive stuff in it. Everyone else had left for the day. He happened to be walking by for some reason and paused to look at me. I waved, he waved back and kept walking but was very obviously paying attention to me for awhile after that. We were walking in the same direction with me behind him, at least until he ducked around a corner. In theory, because he was in the same area last night and saw me get into my car he figured he'd follow me and see what happened. Considering how he got behind me in the parking lot in such a blatant way it seems like a pretty logical conclusion, he probably thought I turned because he had spooked me.

I think the cops just think you are a chill guy and enjoy talking to you. So they pull you over.

Thats called good police work. See something sketchy/odd -> look into it. I'd rather police think that people are up to something and wait to be disprove than the other way round.

I read the thread title and it makes me wonder if you've ever been pulled over by somebody that ISNT a cop.

California has one of the worst ratios of money sent - money received from federal governemnt. As in we send them a dollar, we get back much less. Say what you will, but California is not being selfish, rather we're getting F*d taking care of a lot of other states.

"California has been what public policy analysts call a "net donor" state for more than 20 years. Not since President Ronald Reagan's defense buildup of the 1980s has the state received from Washington more than it sends"-from a news article.

Yea, the recall campaign was jacked up. Go figure the suits controlling the false inflation of electrical prices were the same suits backing up the recall campaign.
I'd disagree however that Arnie has done a bad job. He's done a decent job, and frankly better than I would expect with the amount of special interest groups and pathetically partisan state senate he's dealing with. And that goes both sides of the aisle.

...
.

I wasn't referring to being selfish in relation to federal money, clearly California has been fucked by the rest of America siphoning capital in order to redistribute it to the South and Alaska. The last I saw all of the "blue" states get fucked this way. It's one of the great ironies of contemporary American politics.
I was referring to internal Californian politics. Shit like Prop187 (a racist and unconstitutional attempt at denying public services to anyone who cant prove citizenship when someone says "your papers please!"), or even more blatantly Prop13. That's the one that really fucked California the worst, besides turning California's school systems from the best in the nation to among the worst it totally distorts the housing market and has played a major role in the insane housing boom/bust cycles California has gone through.
Personally, I think California, along with the rest of the west coast, should secede and form their own nation, or nations unified through some kind of supranational system. Seditious libel, ftw!
