Threewave CTF for Quake1 - For anyone who missed this one from the early days of multiplayer internet gaming, it is in my opinion the pinnacle of what I consider the Golden Era of the genre. The online gaming community was much smaller back then, in many ways more mature, but also incredibly naive. None of this had really been done before. I helped run a CTF league for awhile and used to be an ircop on what was then the only gaming IRC network, some of the most fun I've ever had online was back in those days. It was a revolutionary time.

Ultima6 and 7/7.5 - Before Origin got skullfucked by EA, before 3D engines took over RPGs, Richard Garriot defined the genre with these games. I remember being a little kid and seeing that awesome cloth map in the box and just being blown away. Then I remember figuring out that I could rob and kill everyone in Britannia (other than Lord British himself), I turned the sewers of the city into my lair and filled them with loot. It was so fucking awesome. Then Ultima7 came out and took everything awesome about Ultima6 and added way more depth and life to the world. I remember dreaming of MMOs for the first time back then, I actually was later a Ultimate Online beta tester and still have the install disk somewhere or the other. I remember faxing the NDA from my mom's work and she was like WTF is going on?

Privateer1 - If you played this back in the day you understand. I will never forgive the dickholes who ruined Privateer2 and killed Privateer Online.

HL2DM w/super xbow - RIP

Contra on NES - My best friend and I played the hell out of this awesome sidescroller. If I remember correctly it is the original game with up-up-down-down...

...left-right-left-right-B-A-Start. Yes, I know. lol

Sadly, a lot of games these days lack the same charm and memorabilia the older games of the day did. I remember hearing a lecture by Will Wright about the need to emphasize the use of the human imagination to best stimulate the player and the world they find themselves in. The more abstract the space, the more believable it becomes because you disassociate the laws of reality and replace them with the laws of the game world. This is especially true when you compare the level of fidelity commonly found in games in this day and age to, say, Pac-Man or a game like Ultima where the presentation is, at best, left up to the imagination of the player. Of course, with that noted, you have a lot of that "what if" thinking on the brain, which is largely what made games great way back when because of the possibilities.

Yeah is SOE and they killed it eventually but in its prime the 300 man battles where sick. Obrital strike anyone?

Risk. The board game. Cause nothing says your dead like moving 100+ units by hand onto your opponets last piece of terittory. Its more of a personal WTFBBQPWNed.

Its his fault for going after Europe in the first place. Fuck.. it sould just be in the rules go after Europe and you lose.

I agree. We've gone into the thousands of pieces per battle before...those games were way too long.

All these three games <3 fuck yes.

But my absolute favourite game of all time, is Deus Ex.
Been years since I got it and I still enjoy exploring everything, with all the different paths, three endings, a kickass soundtrack and nanos up the ass.

I love Risk, but nobody ever wants to play it with me (because they suck at it).

Team Fortress Classic took up a few years of my life.

But my favorite games were Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo-Tooie. Simply amazing 3D platformers. Mmm...tasty.

And many years spent playing pokemon.

And a little time spent playing Doom and Doom II. But Doom III was just trippy. Somebody made a level for Doom II that was supposed to be the Death Star from Star Wars lolz. It was fun. The stormtroopers of course did not look like stormtroopers, but...

I just got Deus Ex on Steams bargain basement sale and love it.
Very open ended game which I like. I don't mind the graphics not being perfect when there is a good story and freedom to solve problems in more than one way.

Hands down, my favorite game of all time is Tetris (if we are talking video games).

Board game = Scrabble (I know, right?).
