So, Giller and I play co-ed softball together... Well, did. Three weeks ago one brief moment ruined my summer. Let me start by saying - I am really fucking competitive. I really, really, REALLY hate to lose. I get that it's just a co-ed softball summer league but I play to win. It's in my blood. Not to mention I've played softball most of my life and I've always given 110%! So even though it's "just" a co-ed softball game I slide, dive, and do anything I can to make that out or score that run.
Well, the game had just started and I was 2nd at bat; I hit a double... yay me! Another batter gets me to third, I'm headed home, baby! Well, the next batter hits it to the third baseman, I decide to see if I can fuck with him and the catcher and score a run! So I've taken off halfway to home... He throws it to the catcher. In co-ed ball they are usually the worst player on the team so I challenge her. They were solid players and were setting up a trap so I run back to third and slide because she's thrown the ball back to him. Well, it was a late slide and something went wrong. I've slid into bases hundreds of times and although I've had numerous strawberries and scrapes and bruises, I've NEVER truly hurt myself... Until now.
The 3rd base coach and some people in the stands say they heard it pop, all I know is that I was in serious pain. My foot didn't go up and over the bag like it was supposed to... It hit it and wedged down just completely rolling it. All I could say was, "shit shit shit fuck fuck fuck" (repeat that as typed - in 3's probably 10-20 times, haha). They called the gator for me and I got to ride it off the field and out to our car. I gave the "I'll be ok" wave like all the athletes that have to ride the gator do, haha.
After a horrible ER visit in which the jackass doctor failed to do his job properly (and misdiagnosed me!), I finally got into the orthopedic doctor a week later. I found out that I had in fact broken my ankle (ER doc said no broken bones) due to my ligament being bent so far it broke the bone it was attached to. So according to the doctor I've technically torn my ligament and broken a bone (and strained another ligament). All this means I'm in a boot and on crutches. I have a follow up to see how it's healing July 16 but I'm a little worried it's not going well because in the last week I've started having even more pain and swelling (which I never have). That's why they put me back on crutches. If it doesn't heal right I will have to have surgery. Ugh ugh ugh.
Crazy story, huh? Anyone else have any good sports injury stories? I'm full of them but this is my most recent. I've been cleated and finished playing a softball game with a broken foot, I've dislocated my shoulder batting and because it wasn't treated correctly I had to have surgery on it years later to tighten it (it would pop back, out, and back in everytime I moved it in a common movement... Meaning it did it all the time), I broke my finger on both sides playing basketball. Those are my main ones. I'm a bit accident prone, haha.
So what about you all? Sports injuries?

None here.. played baseball, basketball, and soccer as a kid and somehow managed to escape those years without a single broken bone or other injury. Except pride. Hurt that a few times.

Love how Mrs. Giller is popping up on the forums more now, fyi. Only sports injury I got was getting popped in the head by my friend who was swinging a baseball bat. I don't recall it actually hurting though, since I just fell over. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Snapped my wrist playing soccer when some guy fell on it. I stayed in the game though =) Tore almost all the ligaments in my left ankle during a pug basketball game on a botched dunk a few years back. This one sucked because I could barely play or move for 6 months That's it. I've been pretty lucky come to think of it. I'm the leetest one here

Sprained my ankle 3 days before the first football game of my senior year. Luckily it was minor, and I was running full speed (with just a little pain) after 3 weeks. I still tried to play in those 3 weeks, it didn't go well though. Also broke my pinky. It's still jacked up.

Ok where to start... Back in elementary I made a slide tackle in soccer for the ball as the other person did as well, the other person failed to touch the ball completely and her leg ended up around my shoulder. On the way her heel hit my collar bone and snapped it from the bottom. Had to be taken to the hospital cause I was in some serious pain. Had I been hit only a fraction harder then I would have needed emergency surgery to take chunks of bone out. Fortunately after the doc checked my X-Ray I had gotten away with a fracture instead. That was the 2nd time I have broken a bone but the first time wasn't sports related. First time I broke a bone I was only about 3 or 4 years old. I fell down off the dog house being accidentally pushed by my cousin while we were talking to our next door neighbour. I ended up landing on my right arm, the bad news is that my bike was directly underneath me. This wasn't a small drop either it was a good 5 or so feet in the air. I remember this not being as bad as my 2nd broken bone. This first time I completely broke it but I don't recall being in any pain at all for some reason. I couldn't move my elbow passed 90 degrees so I got put with an 80's cast. That crap back then was insanely thicker then casts now. Remember I'm only 4 during this time. Ive had my fair share of cuts and bruses here and there. Getting hit in the nuts is no holiday either and I'm sure plenty of guys in sports that don't require a cup know the pain. In highschool I managed to pull my calf during an indoor track race. That was probly the most pain Ive ever felt in my life to date. Ive also been hit in the jaw with a floor hockey stick. Till this day I get random pains from chewing food. It also likes to pop although I can honestly say it hasn't popped for quite sometime now which I'm happy about. Ive suffered from shin splints doing cross country training plus going through a 5k run hurt like a bitch. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Broke my collar bone and dislocated my right shoulder wrestling in Grade 9 gym class. I took a slam directly on it and landed all funny after. I didn't realize it was broken until I realized that, hey, my arm only moves 10 degrees at most about 3 minutes later. Pain kicked in shortly after. It's also the day when I learned I was born morphine-tolerant. A dose of the stuff had as much effect as a tylenol chewable. My left arm's half an inch longer then my right now. I had an experience similar to this when i wrestled in middle and high school. On the way to a tournament the bus hit a pot hole and my elbow smashed into an exposed piece of metal really hard, I couldnt hardly move it because of the constant, intense pain. I tried to keep from wrestling once we got to the tourney, but my coach basically said I had to suck it up an go out there. As soon as the whistle blew and it was on, I had full range of motion and no pain. After the match, like 5 minutes later...pain comes back, cant move it at all. (i didnt count this as a sports injury because it didnt happen playing the sport) Quote:

Softball is the most dangerous sport in America in terms of total injuries/year. I hope you heal up well from the injury. Personally: - several ankle sprains, several lacerations and one fracture in football - ulnar collateral ligament tear, sterno-costal joint separation skiing - lots of nasty reef abrasions, lacerations and jellyfish envenomations surfing - wrist sprain, carpal tunnel from mountain biking - compression fracture L-3 sledding accident "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

I could write a book about my sports injuries, lol. I've managed to tear all the ligaments in my ankles numerous times, torn menisci in my knees, torn hamstrings, separated and dislocated my shoulders literally over a hundred times, sprained my ACL, MCL and PCL at the same time, broken my nose and managed to knock myself into a concussion 3 times... Needless to say I don't play sports anymore... I'd end up killing myself... though on the bright side all that down time got me into Team Fortress... so yeay agonizing pain! XD My fav story is playing softball a couple years back, I was playing 3rd base and I took a line drive in the knee cap but still managed to throw the guy out... I was stupid and played the rest of the game and even managed to get a double. We won the game and when I sat down I knew I was in trouble because my knee swelled up literally to the size of a softball! My ride was still at work so I hobbled about 2.5 miles to the Health Center on Campus and after waiting an hour I saw a doc who took x-rays of my knee only to find out that my kneecap was missing a piece! You could literally see a chunk of empty space where there used to be kneecap... on the plus side I can feel the rain coming in my knee now! In your defense, my love, your mother is to blame for one of those concussions! xP And it may not be a 'sports' injury but I did manage to slam his thumb in the car door two weeks ago... It was an accident and, no, I am not a terrible wife!! x( As for my injuries...fairly minor except for one. I gave myself a nasty ankle sprain playing basketball in junior high, suffered almost constantly from shin splints in high school (I played tennis all four years) and my biggest injury was breaking my back when I fell off a horse four years ago. That's the nasty injury that has haunted me. You don't recover from that sort of thing, I'm afraid. :/ wrote:{pDs} TitaniumPhoenix: We're Mexican. Complete list of Rikaelus' hurts: - Arm sprain when < 6, got a picture of myself in a sling - Bloody head when I hit it on the side of the pool- my friend's fault. Almost needed stitches. - Blood all down my leg when the same friend stabbed me accidentally with a broken, hollow kid's golf club. Still have the scar. - Stepped on a rusty nail in Stagecraft thanks to some idiot leaving a nail in a shard of wood. - Misc. scrapes and scratches of various sizes Pretty boring, really, though that golf club and nail incidents were pretty cool. Painful injuries that have no actual pain = win. So long as you don't die, of course. The nail was really funny. I was walking around with the piece of wood on the bottom of my shoe and didn't realize it even though the nail went 2/3rds of the way through my foot.
