Sort of thought we were heading this way when everyone started building within eye-shot of each other, so here goes... We need to start marking our territory. Keep your dicks in, that doesn't mean scenting the ground with your pee. That means placing sign posts in viewable places and perhaps periodically in long tunnels/big caverns so others' know when they stumble in on your creations. While signs are usually pretty ugly, there are some practical advantages: - People know who made ugly shit and can make sure they're not online before mocking it - People know who make cool shit and can make sure they're not online before complimenting it - If someone breaks your shit and can't fix it, they know who to contact to let you know - If someone wants to connect to your shit, they know who to ask Less important but possibly useful, we might want to include something to denote if the contents of nearby chests are private or for public use.

i support this idea, but i can see problems with implementation, specifically underground. there are lots of tunnels weaving in and out of each other, so unless you want signs every 5 blocks or so, this could get difficult. i think on the surface at least we could make fences or something to denote our plot of land maybe just throwing stuff out there. just throwing stuff out there. There's a mod that sort of allows allocated room, and prevents others from doing stuff there, but I think we're crisscrossing each other too much already. And things like my skybridge are intended to help everyone get around, so it can't really be bound quite the same. If we had reset the server I would have looked into that more, but I think we're beyond that being practical now. As for tunnels, yeah... posting signs isn't a requirement but it behooves the owner to have them often enough that others can reasonably see them. I'll probably put them at turns and other notable places.

my Tunnels are near my tower , if you dont see my tower you are blind Keep your dick out of my land unless you ask like rik .. Not really hard to miss i was one of the first to build just stay away from my crap and you wont run into my mines. it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Not really hard to miss i was one of the first to build just stay away from my crap and you wont run into my mines. Hard to see your tower underground. =P Once I get my dome completed around your tower I'm probably going to focus my attention to the west of spawn, so shouldn't risk bumping into your minds anymore.

Your building around my tower now?...gah didnt you invade my territory enough with ripping of my idea for the sky bridge ?. it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. More interested in acquiring "profits" than anything else. -Erkdog

great idea! except for two problems - One - eventually griefers are going to get into the server - I've very intentionally hidden away my base to avoid vandalism / theft / shennanigans and all was well for a decently long time. If you put this in - unless you start dealing with permissions, which is a entirely different and probably just as bad headache as territory marking - this shit probably won't work for those of us who have very intentionally hidden away from plain sight. The second issue at hand would be how much territory one's allowed to claim - and how far off you should be from another before claiming territory yourself. This should be very defined before making any sort of rules, because otherwise there will be inevitably land disputes. On that note - you could just say fuck it - let people build where they'll build and let the players manage it themselves, it's much less of a headache for you and honestly as long as no one starts to flood the world with lava ( which would easily qualify as excessive griefing ) it shouldn't be a excessive problem. Ok, I lied, three issues - the third issue comes in, if you pass this and start regulating it - how fun is the game going to be if it's regulated too severely? Figure out what you want the server to act as. If it's creative, let it be creative and put in all the necessary anti-PVP and PVE measures thereof. If it's survival, let it be survival which is, at it's core - a PVP and PVE game. Frostbite wrote:Your building around my tower now?...gah didnt you invade my territory enough with ripping of my idea for the sky bridge ?. I've always been "around" your tower, by my standards. In a world of immeasurable size, I consider it "around" to be within eye-shot of another person. That said, we kind of claimed that area at the same time. You were building your tower while I was digging my tunnels, neither of us realizing we were that close to each other. And a skybridge is hardly an original idea. =P

Well, I'm not saying you need a sign on the surface if you have a fortress underground. But if they've found your fortress, there's little harm in a griefer knowing whose it is... unless they're very selective about who they're going to grief. Maybe I should have been more clear; the signs should be evident within or around your creation, when the creation is already visible. More than that is player prerogative. I'm hoping to institute a whitelist feature I think the WorldEdit plugin has provided. That should filter out any would-be griefers and leave only those who have been specifically given the IP address access. Of course... I don't remember everyone's in-game name, so it might take a while to get the list right. Too late for that, really. I had hoped people would naturally want a nice amount of room for themselves and move away from spawn, and I was hoping to put in the rule that only bridges/tunnels are allowed near spawn. But then several people joined in one day and set up shop right near spawn and I don't want to force anyone to move what they've already made. It's also hard to players to obey a rule like that when, while underground, you could be a block away from someone else and not know it. Server-enforced zones would be the only way to really actively enforce it. But like you said.. sort of a headache. Quote:Ok, I lied, three issues -

If it's survival, let it be survival which is, at it's core - a PVP and PVE game. It's creative-PvE, which seems to be fairly common for servers. Beta is inherently survival but includes a PvP-off setting, which we've flipped on. That said, given how we've had some drama already, any creative server has to have some rules... or at least guidelines. I could see marking as always being more of a "guideline", since it benefits the creator more than the visitor.

This is why i think a reset would be great , This was a learning experience for us all and starting new would allow us all to do what we can to make it eaiser.. we would know better then to build by spawn ..Give each other space and all's well end well. Edit ..look at the turf wars going on right now ...me and rik , porgon and quart , Super and quart/me and rik Everyone is stacked so close to another its going to just cause issues later on it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Everyone is stacked so close to another its going to just cause issues later on i still find it hilarious how people are squabbling over such a small chunk of a NEARLY INFINITE WORLD. just move away! there is plenty of space out there! your initial buildings are insignificant compared to whatever you do afterward! just move away! there is plenty of space out there! your initial buildings are insignificant compared to whatever you do afterward! Yep, the more ambitious I plan to make things, the farther away from others I go. My lavadome is going to be near my existing outpost only because I don't feel like moving 972 buckets of lava... For my kingdom (yes, fullblown kingdom) I plan to head pretty far west, expanding my skyway all the way there
