However...
The Bukkit mod hasn't been updated for 1.3 yet. So this means our extended functionality is currently unavailable, including:
- Lava/fire spread restrictions are gone
- Creeper terrain/structure damage is re-enabled
- The /pl command is currently absent
Hopefully it won't take too long for the Bukkit developers to catch up with a new release.
Until then, play with a bit more caution.
Bukkit has been updated and is back on the server.
Creeper terrain damage should again be negated, though I haven't tested it first hand.
Bukkit itself seems to have hijacked the /pl command previously used by the playerlist plugin. I'm keeping an eye on an update of that plugin while researching alternatives.
We're back to the prior lava-fire protection; lava isn't able to start fires, but other sources that start fires on trees spread uncontrolled. I attempted the configuration that won the vote and it sort of works... leaves don't burn through so the spreading is appropriately limited, but the bottoms of the blocks still catch on fire. While each leaf block's fire eventually goes out naturally, it just gets relit by the fire on the neighboring block. This effectively leads to a perpetual burning of the bottom of the leaves. It may disappear when the blocks despawn/respawn.. not sure.
But... I've found another anomaly with lava-fire. Likely derived from the
South/West Rule -- which is a known, unintentional mechanic -- lava sparks can pass through the south or west edge of two blocks containing lava, jump a couple blocks away, and set things on fire. Even if the lava isn't visible. I saw it even setting stone floors on fire for a period of time, and rather often.
So not only is the original "accidental-huge-fire-due-to-spark" problem there, now there's a bug with lava sparks passing through block edges. While that one won't likely result in a forest fire and so doesn't have the same "environment protection" argument behind it, it's a bug that's also taken care of by disabling lava spark fires.
Edit: For the time being lava-fire is re-enabled, while I run a new risk assessment.
