Strange. I don't see the advantage of another full-blown console. Plus it'd kind of alienate PC players who don't much care for your run of the mill console. Something they might consider is some sort of gaming module add-on for PCs--something that would combine graphics cards, physics cards, and custom software that the Steam platform could leverage; an attempt at a next step of evolution for today's graphics cards. It'd make gaming more accessible for PC owners, too--the kind of accessibility found in consoles, but potentially cheaper/better since it wouldn't need its own drives, storage, controllers, etc.

Sounds to me like a sort of pc gaming console, probably with a steam os. keyboard/mouse, naturally, but also ports for data and peripherals. Safety + Peace

I think the going assumption is that they couldn't do the Ep3 storyline justice as just a small expansion, so they're rolling it into HL3 somehow. If I were them I'd release an Ep3-like standalone game on their next engine as a prologue to the full HL3. They could achieve a lot of things doing that, including giving people their "Ep3", test their new engine pre-HL3 release, and build renewed hype for HL3.

Valve has leaked images of a logo for a new half-life game that basically consist of a lambda and a 3. This means their next Half-Life game will somehow make use of the number 3. Beyond that everything is speculation. I predict they'll just do Half-Life 3. Nobody knows what sorcery Valve is ever up to though. As for the console: I wouldn't buy it. If I wanted a console that I could play PC games on I would go with OnLive. A PC/Console hybrid would be overly restrictive, something that Valve has never done. Plus they've never forayed into hardware before, so I feel like it would be a pretty big gamble for something like this. That Kotaku article does the discussion much better justice than I could ever do though. Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Yeah, I can't imagine it being anything close to a typical console. Even one that plays PC games won't have much of a market. Better IMO just to have a hardware module that puts console-like ease into a PC. People with aging PC hardware (like me) and anyone with a non-gaming PC that wants to play games, might be interested in that. Or it's all talk about something that isn't planned at all.
