I know some of you have Netflix, or Hulu Plus or Amazon Prime. I am trying to decide which to get and I know you all are opinionated about such things.

The impetus for this is I have been watching a lot of TV since the dog has been gone. We're switching to AT&T so we're getting rid of Cable DSL and cable, because no one watches TV. Except for me now.

So, now I'm gonna have this empty space in my viewing schedule. I have tried to look up all those streaming services above. Kinda hard to discern which has the best content.

Netflix seems to have like one page of movies in each category. Amazon Prime seems to have different content while Hulu Plus seems to have the most of what I might watch, but it looks like Netflix and Hulu Plus are around $8 per month. At least one of those two can be canceled at any time. Amazon Prime is $79 per year or $6.58 a month, but it's for the whole year.

I had thought of getting a Kindle Fire (because, I don't want to get an iPad, that's why) but I was thinking that when I saw an offer for a refurbished one with a coupon added for a final cost of $129, but that deal expired.

I figured I could get a Netflix or Hulu app on the Kindle Fire. It would have come with Amazon Prime for a month for free. And you can't do regular Hulu on the Kindle Fire.

Yes, I thought of getting an Android pad for like $69.

Right now I'm just watching regular Hulu for free. Like I watched the Sarah Connor Chronicles, at least like 5 episodes. Have to pay to see rest. -And I'm too chicken to do that thing that rhymes with kit florant.

So, which would you recommend?

To anyone who does a lot of online shopping I recommend Amazon Prime big time. That's why I have it. Everything I buy on Amazon I can get with no tax and no shipping, making every item cheaper than buying locally. I easily save twice the cost of Amazon Prime a year.

To its video offering, I don't know. I looked at it once but didn't have much need of it, so didn't dig too deeply. We use NetFlix on our PS3 through my wife's friend's account. My wife pays for HBO just while certain shows are in-season. And I usually download any movies we'd watch.

So I'm in a different boat but will say this: If you do online shopping that's a big plus for going Amazon Prime.

Many thanks.

Here's a link to 500+ movies to watch for free. At the bottom of the page there's a bunch of other outlets for free (legal streaming) viewing.

awhile back Mrs. C got me a kindle fire and I have to say it is nice, but you have to accept its limitations. It will stream netflix for 4-6 hours on a full charge. What I really like about it is the local library has a nice e-book selection. books are easy to check out and I can go the better part of two weeks reading about 45 min a night without needing a recharge. The one downside, forget about using it in bright light, in those conditions its worthless.

Bulletized comments:

Prime, Kindle, Netflix, Hulu+... I have them all, atm. Because, yea, because I am a douche. Anyway...

* Prime: Limited movie/TV selections; difficult to browse on a tablet unless you know exactly what you want to watch and they happen to offer it on prime. I don't believe Prime has a user queue that you can load up like you can with Netflix or Hulu. But... As mentioned prior, whatever Prime lacks in selection/interface, it makes up for in major perks otherwise (free books via Amazon or library, stream all their prime videos, rentals/purchases, free 2 day shipping... really a good deal if you buy online from Amazon at any frequency >4x per year or so). Seems like they regularly add more perks for Prime subscribers, so it has value well beyond just it's streaming video.

* Kindle: Good little device. No major complaints about it except that it can be a little sluggish in user interface and... it is not a full fledged tablet. Don't tell yourself it is; you'll be disappointed. It's a media consumption device which also can run some apps. Great for books, Amazon movies via prime or rental, some music, etc. But, jeez, try to find something better for the price.

* Netflix (yes there's a kindle app): Watch mostly movies? Netflix is your pal. Larger selection of movies than TV. Streaming selection is not as good as their DVD library, but there's still a lot to watch. Dialed interface; if you take the time to rate movies, etc, it's not bad at recommending shows that you'll like.

* Hulu+ (yes there's a kindle app): Watch mostly TV shows? Hulu+ is your pal. Good TV show selection; some movies, but less. Can see whole series of some pretty obscure shows. Reliable interface. Only significant annoyance is that a non-trivial number of shows are "PC only"... which is annoying if you want to watch on a Kindle or an ipad or whatnot.

Also, Cantrip... think about Roku if you want to watch this streaming shit on your TV. www.roku.com It's made of awesome... Pure, uncut awesome. And there are LOTS of other free "channels" besides Hulu and Netflix on Roku for video/audio entertainment goodness.

Cheers,
-GrOwF?!

Ah. Nice. Thank you very much guys.

There seems to be lots of stuff out there to watch. And I did look into that Roku player thingie just now. Seems cool.

Will probably take action in the next couple of weeks.

This might be of interest to you as well: Splitflix

It's a site that pairs you with an anonymous person and facilitates sharing a Netflix or Hulu account. I believe they charge both parties $1 per month, but you only pay half of the price for the subscription. Seems interesting, I haven't used it before, but maybe it suits you!

I just got Netflix, I doubt I'll run out of content there. I agree with what Growf said about all this stuff though. I do believe that Amazon Prime recently added a queuing feature of some sort to their service though.
