Today I got up to go for a walk. Been out of commission for about a month because I injured my foot. Today was first time was able to do anything. I went to breakfast and had a hamburger and egg scramble with home fries, toast and about 5 cups of coffee. That was about 1300 calories. Then during lunch I went to Jack in the Box. I had a Jumbo Jack with cheese, small fries, two tacos and a cup of coffee. After I finished that, I ordered a Sourdough Jack. That was about 2200 more calories without counting the coffee sugar and milk. So that's at least 3500 calories. -The average adult male needs only about 2000 to maintain weight. And I'm about to have pizza. -Yes, I'm a little depressed. Anyway, upon realizing my calorie intake today, I tried to do some pushups and found I couldn't do too many. So now I am doing pushups for 10 seconds every 10 minutes. But they're not full pushups - those hurt. I'm starting in the elevated plank position like you would start a pushup, then only going down half-way and back up, as many times as I can in 10 seconds. I have a timer set for 10 minutes, so I'm doing this every 10 minutes. I do the pushups (meh) then reset the timer. I figure the upstroke will get stronger to the point I will be able to do full pushups. Hey, that's more than I have been doing, which has been nothing for about a month. I'm afraid to even try doing one. It'd probably be a catastrophe. And a serious fall from grace... I remember one of the times we were doing fitness testing in high school P.E., me and another kid got into some crazy zone where we could just keep doing push-ups. Like. Never stopping. They were so easy to do and didn't seem to sap my strength at all. I think I voluntarily quit at around 90 just because I got bored and wanted to go play basketball instead. Back then I could even do pull ups. Sigh. That seems like... so long ago. =(

That's because you were in high school - you probably weighed way less and your ratio of muscle to mass was much higher back then. I remember I could do pushups and run forever. But I was also at 155-165 lbs. for the longest time. Then I was up to 175 lbs when I was 20 years old and I started to slow down. Been downhill after that. Today I walked/ran my usual 3.5 mile route. It normally takes about 30-35 minutes to run depending on how lazy I am. Yesterday it took a little over an hour to walk. Today I walked for five minutes, then ran for one minute, then walked for five, then ran for one, etc. Foot still hasn't healed but don't just want to walk it forever. If I were to walk OR run the 3.5 miles, I would burn the same number of calories. Repeat: I would burn the same number of calories. However, if I ran it, I would get the added benefit of eventually getting to the point where I would burn stored fat, instead of energy reserves in the blood, muscles and what is stored in the liver. Plus, I would get the benefit of burning calories even after I stopped running. Anyway, I need to get lighter. There are all kinds of health concerns which would go away if I were to lose about 20 lbs. Well, maybe 30 at this point. Haven't weighed myself in a while. Lighter means pushups get easier. Everything gets easier. And it also helps with improving your mood. Which I need. With what little I did yesterday, I feel my arms a little harder, but they're not sore at all. I think today will be easier. Okay, haven't done any pushups today. I'm off to locate the kitchen timer and start this over again. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." I hit my peak of 6 feet tall at the end of junior high. Needless to say, upper-classmen in high school didn't mess with me. I definitely didn't look like the average freshman. Quote:I remember I could do pushups and run forever. But I was also at 155-165 lbs. for the longest time. Then I was up to 175 lbs when I was 20 years old and I started to slow down. Been downhill after that. I was pretty steady around 180 during high school, but also lifted weights semi-regularly at home. That's likely why push ups came so easily to me. I definitely was not a runner, though. I'd be on the verge of throwing up after "running" a mile around the track--and most of that wouldn't have qualified as running, per se. I did pretty good until I got out of high school and started my professional career behind a desk. And for some reason I thought meatball subs were healthy, so ate a foot long every work night for at least 8 months. Needless to say that, combined with being behind a desk all the time, pushed me out of shape big time. The only high point after that was when I was 23 and there was a girl I liked. The desire for sex inspired me to work out for an hour every night. I didn't lose a lot of weight (was already ~240) but I built up a lot of muscle really quick. I've always carried weight well, so with that muscle I was looking and feeling pretty good. Then I lost touch with that girl, but then met the girl that would be my wife. So that timing worked out alright. Of course, once in a steady relationship I lost all my motivation to keep working out, and it's been horribly downhill since. Where you'll be better off losing 20lbs, I'd probably need to lose about 80lbs-100lbs. =/

You could do what I did and get one of these. I go out every other day, during the week typically 12-15 mile runs and 25-35 miles on the weekend. I try to keep my calorie range between 2000-2500. It's kinda nice to have a couple of protected bike paths in the area.

TP has the nicest taste in toys . . . Just got home. Let's see here's what I ate today: Coffee (creamer and sugar) =30 Cal. Oatmeal (1 cup, plain, w water, nuked) =130 Cal. Chia Seeds (as in Chia Pet seeds - to go w oatmeal, 2 table spoons) =60 Cal. Unsalted Almonds (from Trader Joe's, handfull) =160 Cal. Big salad (no dressing or croutons) =30 Cal. Unsalted Almonds (from Trader Joe's, handfull) =160 Cal. Egg Beaters (half cup, nuked) =60 Cal. Tortilla (Whole Grain - for the egg beater burrito) =100 Cal. OJ. (8 oz.) =110 Cal. Denny's Egg Beater (two egg whites, spinach and tomatoes) =100 Cal. Coffee (creamer) =30 Cal. Unsalted Almonds (from Trader Joe's, handfull) =160 Cal. Total = 1130 Cal. Shoot. I am going to be really really hungry tomorrow. But for now, not hungry at all. I might have another handful of almonds before turning in. Total sodium intake for the above is about 500 mgs. For comparison, the Jumbo Jack with cheese I had yesterday had around 1200 mgs. A Taco Bell crunchy taco is about 300 mgs. A Hot Pocket pizza flavored thingy is over 700 mgs. Yes, I have to watch my sodium intake. Well. This is depressing. :( . You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." Don't worry about missing the sodium. I cut out most sodium from my diet about a year ago. After about 1-2 weeks you notice that food actually tastes better and you don't miss the salt. Matter of fact, if you reduce your sodium intake for 1-2 weeks then have one of those sodium rich meals you probably won't like the taste because it will be too salty. Try adding it 5 % of your sodium requirement per table spoon and realy adds a kick to food.

I was excited about riding again. I always enjoyed it as a kid. Even then my weight pushed the suspension all the way down and made the balancing all off. Basically it was uncomfortable and unrideable. I know there are better ones for my size but my body has changed so much I probably couldn't even balance on it. And then it would probably take crazy effort just to get momentum. Plus summer in Arizona doesn't give a lot of opportunity to ride without heatstroke. =/

Ah, yes. I've had that hot sauce. It' has like 100 mgs in sodium per table spoon - it's good! Some of the tastier ones have more. Tabasco sauce has 35 mgs per tablespoon. If need a hit, I use that stuff, but I don't really need it. But I do like that other sauce too. I've been peeing up a storm which means my intake is way down. Since there's less sodium, the body retains less water. Hence all the pissin. And your body needs about 200 mgs of sodium a day to stay alive. That's what's in two small glasses of milk. You get so much sodium from processed food that you never have to worry about dying because you don't get enough. And even if you try to cut it out completely, you can't; it's in everything. Today I had Almonds, like 4 handfuls; egg beaters in a whole grain tortilla with cheese; one bowl of oatmeal with chia seeds; some orange juice; two bananas; one peach; two big cups of coffee with creamer and a bag of Fresh Express Green and Crisp salad mix from the store. That bag of salad mix is only like 60 Cal. per bag. I had about four handfuls of steel-cut oats as a snack. Oh, and an entire bag of frozen peas, nuked in some water. That was good. I have no idea how many calories that is above. Maybe 1500 Cal., I think. There was maybe 400 mgs of sodium total. Oh, and didn't do many pushups. I basically just did 10 seconds of them between this sentence and the last so I could say that I at least did some today. - I did some, btw. In about two days I'm going to be really really hungry. I feel way better though. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Cantrip is starting some great threads! I'm running a 5k in October. Been trying to get myself into decent shape again (I've been out of shape and a fatty-kins ever since I got into a nasty accident seven years ago). I've been walking/jogging a little under three miles a day for about two weeks now. I'm going to up it to six miles a day and break it up into two three mile sessions. One in the AM and one in the PM. I'm also adding a daily swimming routine to help shed some more weight so I can move faster. I've also slowly started weight lifting again. I was an inspired by a sandbag training commercial and decided to give it a shot. Built my own sandbag (which I actually filled with water) that weighs 24lbs. Been lifting that and slinging it around a bit. I'll eventually add more weight because my goal is to be able to lift and toss around a 100lb weight. Anyone else get violently hungry after they workout? Changing up your diet has to be the hardest part of getting healthy. Unhealthy food is just so tasty! Titanium is right, solid threads indeed.
I am about to get back into shape, too. I had a baby (a beautiful baby girl!) 5 weeks ago today and haven't worked out at all really since I got pregnant. I'm waiting until my 6 week follow up appointment next week before jumping back into my pre-baby "get healthy/get skinny" routine. I figure I'm allowed a few more ice cream cones before being good again... I carried a baby for almost 41 weeks, almost bled to death after I had her (I had a postpartum hemorrhage - damn placenta wouldn't deliver and I had 4 doctors and most of the nursing staff feverishly working to stop the bleeding... Ended up needing 2 units of blood... Poor Giller was left holding our new baby in the delivery room full of blood as they said "your wife is losing a lot of blood" and whisked me away to the operating room), and am functioning on very little sleep currently. I fucking deserve some ice cream cones, right?! :)
Anyways, my big plan is to start easy. I've already starting with some walking and will work into a couch to 5k workout. Once I'm doing better and don't feel like I'm going to die, I'll probably start P90X again. My goals are to do a 5K in the fall and a half marathon next spring (with a desire to beat my previous half time).
Food wise I'll probably aim for around 1800 calories daily. I'm breast feeding which alone burns 500 calories daily. I definitely need to cut the fat, sodium, and sugar.
Perhaps we can all help to keep each other on track and healthy! I need accountability!

Jesus. Someone get this women some Goddamn ice cream!! (Seriously. If I were in Oklahoma we'd be having some damn ice cream!) I agree with the accountability thing. It also helps to keep track of what you've eaten/done. Seems to help me accomplish goals when I can see my work. I had to take Duck to school today because he was super sick (and being he trooper that he is, he wanted to go to school anyway) so I didn't have my usual morning routine. I found a Starbucks and was bad and had their new cookie mocha. Damn it was yummy! Also had their spinach feta egg white wrap, which was also yummy. I think it was just shy of 800 calories, so it's not horrible but it's not my typical healthy morning. As a side note: some swingers just sat down at the table next to me and are discussing wife swapping. There's not a looker in the bunch, either, so I may end up losing those 800 calories in a minute here! LOL. wrote:{pDs} TitaniumPhoenix: We're Mexican. Pics, or it never happened. Here's a website which does customized running training schedules for a fee, but they have free schedules for any running goal starting from someone who has never run a step in her life, to a marathon or even ultra marathon: http://www.halhigdon.com/
The schedules list what you should do on what day in a no-brainer fashion. You have a 5-K in two months or two weeks? -there's a schedule for that. I had a bunch of work to do yesterday and didn't get around to having lunch til late afternoon, by which point I was starving. I broke down and got Pollo Loco: I asked which meat item had the least amount of sodium and the gal said the unmarinaded chicken breast (no skin). So I ordered two of them. Remember when I said I would be really hungry? Well, that was yesterday. I had a large Hi-C Fruit Punch drink to go with it. Two of them actually. I still figured I got over 1000 mgs of sodium in that meal. And I don't know these things, but aren't you supposed to like eat tons when you're breast feeding? My friend had a baby last month and he says it eats and poops about every 2 hrs. He takes care of it at night and if he gives it formula, it sleeps for like 6 hrs. So he gives it formula after his wife goes to sleep around midnight and takes him up again after 6 a.m. - He doesn't tell his wife he does this, but justifies it by saying his wife needs to sleep and the kid is really hungry. I think he just wants to sleep longer than 2 hrs at a time. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." How many calories were in the whole meal? I did a bunch of wind sprints today as well as hill sprints, jogging and walking. I even lugged around my heavy sand/waterbag while I walked for a bit. Figured I'd burn more calories carrying something heavy on top of the walking. Now I feel like I've been hit by a bus. Maaaaaaay have over done it. The chicken breasts were 180 Cal. a piece, and all the veggie stuff was less than 100, so about 500 Cal. for what you see in the pic. It was really good. However, I had two Hi-C fruit punch drinks for like an additional 600 Cal. - Sugar adds up. Total meal with drinks was about 1100 Cal. Here's the nutrition fact page pdf: http://www.elpolloloco.c...tionChart_11%202011.pdf http://www.elpolloloco.com/nutrition.aspx
I would eat this again, minus the choice of drink of course. You seem to work out like a mad woman. I don't think I could do what you do. Just walked/ran today. Takes about an hour when it only would take 35 minutes if I ran the entire way. I dig Egg Beaters (egg whites in a milk carton thingie with a screw top). I can pour some into a glass pie pan. toss it in the microwave and it comes out like an omelet, which I put into a tortilla w some cheese. Did that twice today and ate like a bag and a half of salad mix (like 20 Cal.) and some cookies. Oatmeal and chia in the morning w some OJ. Almonds. -I know you're not bored of my list of food. The cookies tasted really salty. I think I'm at the point where my taste buds are sensitive enough now to detect sodium after not having a lot of it for a week. I've lost enough circumference around my waist in the last week that I need to cinch my belt one notch tighter now. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ."
