Anyone who remembers my Minecraft endeavors probably remembers that I don't do anything "small", and the new project is pushing the limits yet again: A "split" pyramid starting one block below the clouds, going all the way down to one above bedrock.

Day 1:

Day 7:

The tougher part is actually flattening the interior, including getting rid of a lot of the lakes that had existed.

I'll just keeping going down, down, down into the pits of hell.

This ain't no Creative mode bull, either--it's Survival, albeit sometimes on Peaceful. I haven't liked combat since they nerfed the bow many versions ago. But that means every block broken with tools and all stone in the construction being cooked.

I'm not sure what I'll do once the base pyramid is complete. I might copy the world before building up an interior/exterior to it since I think the hollow view will be something to behold in its own right.

And it's all single-player right now, too. I might also try to find a mod to restore the old passive mob spawning mechanics to build traps around--the breeding shit is another "upgrade" of the game I absolutely despise...

After a couple weeks I have the land leveled within the pyramid at 58 height.

By my estimate, to have the pyramid go down to level 10, I'll need to go through a little over 1,880,064 blocks. Not counting existing caves and ravines, of course.

Yeah... this could take a while.

this is awesome rik, I think, but I dont get minecraft. I played for 4 minutes one day and there wasnt enough boobs or sexy graphics to hold my interest long enough to learn the keys. So maybe i just have adhd, but all the same, it looks impressive. Made me think of this the other day (or this made me think of you and minecraft and this site, I dont know which happened first yet.)
Anyways, someone posted this on another forum I frequent - www.sherdog.net for anyone who wants to experience the piranha pool (according to Joe Rogan) of the mma forum world.

So yea, figured I'd share because even though i'm not into minecraft, I thought FF7 rocked when I played it way back in the day. And this took me like 30 minutes to dig up after a random thought connection, so I hope you at least appreciate it lol. Btw- your pyramid looks sexy huge but I have no idea what size means in minecraft. How big would it be in the real world? Like empire state building huge or Bender's statue huge?

They say that one block is 1 meter in width, height, and depth. So by that logic the base of this pyramid, underground, would be ~240m per side. A little bigger than the Great Pyramid of Giza. On the surface it's about ~144m.

The lava dome that I'd made on our multiplayer server, which is my biggest "dig underground" project so far, only required the removal of around ~64,000 blocks. So removing ~1,880,064 is for this is, well... a sizable project increase. I do NOT expect to do it all in one run. I'm already itching for other games.

hah, that's awesome. One of Heinlein's books, the book of j.o.b. has a character that gets stuck working in the shittiest dish washing job. And the one way he finds to get through the day of washing dishes is to calculate how tall they are. Once he figures out how tall one stack of dishes is, he starts keeping track. One day everyones in the dining room having dinner and he walks in and says "I have just reached the top of the empire state building in dirty dishes!" and the whole place cheers for him and this hot girl comes up and gives him a huge kiss. Just a book, but pretty hilarious. You need to find a hot girl to come make out with you when you manage something on the scale of Giza lol.

thanks for sharing the work Rik!

I do think this may take the rest of my life.

So my plan was, once I finished flattening the surface within the pyramid, to:
1. Cut a hole down the middle with levels (6 blocks open per level) with a ladder and chests to store what I mine
2. Take each corner edge of the pyramid down to the bottom (block level 6)
3. Connect those bottom edges across
4. Starting from the top level, cut the ground out to the edge
5. Back to #4 until I got to the bottom

#3 threw me a nasty curve ball, though: Lava.

Loads and loads of fucking lava.

So for the past week and a half I've been carving out just one quarter of the bottom level. About 46,000+ blocks of area. While I've gone I've turned the bottom level into a lava storage area. So as I've hit these fucking lakes of lava, I either move it to the storage areas or turn it into obsidian and mine it.

On the plus side the bottom level should make up the majority of lava presence and it also has the widest area of the pyramid, so things should get easier once this is done...

... about a month from now.

none of that made any sense to me, but it sounds impressive.
