So- we need to find a game that I can play with some of you. and I dont mean the ones of you with the fancy high end rigs and cable internet so good you dont even have to download your high def porn anymore- I'm talking about those of you who have shoddy rigs and/or internet connections that make pre-european Americans look fast in chariot races (hint, they didnt have horses.)
So what's some thoughts? I like LoL and can run it on my laptop, its totally free to play and lots of fun especially with friends (www.leagueoflegends.com) but I'm scared to play it with my crappy connection.
I miss playing Civ 4 with Duck and the Mayor (even though all we did was fight over city locations and then stop playing) but not sure if everyone has moved on to civ 5 or not? (I'm not as much of a fan of civ 5. Not to mention wont run on my shitty laptop. Need to fix my PC before I can run it again.)
Let me hear your thoughts- I aint all technical like Shignog, I just know what I know via trial and error.

Crawdad has been playing Planetside 2. Mrs.crawdad has not really been playing anything. I am, however, getting slowly caught up on The Walking Dead episodes that I missed (so all three seasons). unless you're inviting us over for a pie tasting/zombie marathon (could get really creative with the pie fillings!) I dont think watching TV is going to be very exciting for some of us ADD folks. But I've always been a fan of left 4 dead and mindless zombie killing. would that be up your metaphorical alley?
And what is planetside 2? Perhaps Mr. Crawdad will come share?

Ooh, I'm kind of, sort of into Planetside 2 also. At least it's my current FPS of choice when not Minecrafting or playing Sins. Thought about playing it some more soon. What server/faction is crawdad? And is he in a clan? I'm without one so kind of do the lone wolf thing when playing.

Crawdad is Dr. Craw on Planetside 2. He is with the Terran Republic. Crawdad usually plays with Diffedge. He's in a clan, but willing to start another one if the pDs people want to learn. If you want to log on and shoot my husband a message, he will be more than willing to start a new toon and go through with you! I will look into Planetside 2, if it can run on my rig I'd be down to play as long as it fits my gaming budget (i.e. if its free. Unemployed = no gaming budget)
Just had to drop a note for you Mrs. C, I was playing some COD last night while babysitting my niece (she said moma for the first time today! I was helping her practice last night while feeding her bedtime meal so I feel like a good uncle) and tried out the zombie mode just for you. I didnt care for it (Zombie genre is too irrationally predictable for my tastes) but I did have fun thinking I was playing L4D with some of the old crew.

Unemployed = no gaming budget) PS2 is F2P, but it seems to take forever to earn the game's currency through play. Substantially quicker to buy it. PS2 kind of blew my mind, really. Not that it's a "great" game, but the shear scope. I hadn't realized the technology had gotten to the point to support MMOFPS games like this. That it's F2P is even better.

That it's F2P is even better. awesome. I'll try and clear some space on the laptop (aka, cry while deleting porn) and see if I can get it to run. My DSL modem seems to have issues with the PPoE connection or something, have to cycle it a lot and it seems to have some packet logjam issues. But still, if its F2p I'll just pull a Mrs. C and play the engy equivalent. Also talked to a buddy who has a floppy drive I can borrow, so might actually get my gaming rig back up and running in the near future. And a F2P sounds like a perfect game to see if we can get some folks back interested in this place. I mean if we have the crawdads, we have style AND pie. How can we go wrong?

Well, if we can get the support to make another go at it, the best path would probably be to restart things with the new site. It's not "finished" but it can be pushed into service if needed. There are only a couple things I'd want to add quick, then the rest can be added as we go. More than anything it needs testing. And if we want to go with it I can look at spending some of the clan's ~$1300 server fund to hire a company to update the visuals for the new name. Anyway, it can all be seen at http://www.gamersyndicate.com

I just registered at it Rik, it seems to run incredibly smooth. I have a few ideas and suggestion on ways to streamline the site and make it more functional for the current activity level of the community. Would it be appropriate to run those by you sometime?

got a fatal error (page break I guess?) when following prompts from account activation email. generated following:
Fatal error: Call to a member function setStatus() on a non-object in /var/www/gamersyndicate.com/htsystems/classes/Group.class.php on line 647
but hit the back button and it said I was already activated. And not letting me log in now it seems?
Not sure if I'm just trying to do too much with it or what. Just figured I'd try and test it out, it seems to run amazingly smooth in terms of load speed.

Sure thing. You can just give them here or PM me. Whichever. ahhhh_crap wrote:got a fatal error (page break I guess?) when following prompts from account activation email. generated following:

Looks like it happened during the activation process, when it would add you to the default groups. I'll look into it and try to get it working. I can't stress how "from scratch" this is, so I'm sure there are a lot of bugs like this lurking. Still, this one surprises me a bit. I thought this piece was working decently well...

That particular bug with registration should be fixed. Also squashed a few others in passing. I deleted your account so you can remake it fresh. P.S. Thanks for testing, and I'm glad to hear you like the speed of it. It follows an object-oriented code design far greater than what you'll often find in PHP website code and that can sometimes come at a performance cost. And that's with the forum database having over 400,000 (auto-generated) posts. I don't think content load should be a concern any time soon. =P

man, I show up and already got my account deleted? I must be a pro-troll or something.
But I'll re-reg later on today and give it another spin. Very awesome work you've put together. I've been really wanting the site to get 'branded' on something besides Whut's legacy. We need to keep a big penguin around with a question mark on his chest and an evil grin, but its a whole lot of backstory to get new folks filled in on if they come into the community.
I was hoping we could get a really streamlined forum set up that we can expand on, more so than a huge forum like this place was set up as when Whut and Sirius set up their hosting server and were looking to stop stealing underwear and move on to phase 2.

FYI, been dinking around with registration and authentication, so that's all kind of iffy right now.
