ok so i have been having trouble getting into the Tomb all night.  i keep getting the error "map differs from the server" error.  i even tried deleting all my maps (all 3 of them since i reloaded ctf and steam a few days ago).  i got in once all night and that was when 2_fort was on.  i'm sure i will figure this out, but i was wondering if other people were having issues getting on tonight as well.

Yeah, delete the map files that say that, and reconnect to the server and it will download that version automatically.

i did that.  i was only able to play a few of the maps last night.  i was able to play 2_fort and pedistal, and bedrooms.  those were the only ones.  i couldn't play dirtwork, substation, and one other one that i can't remember.  the funny thing is it would download the map first (because i didn't have it), then procede to tell me that my map differs from the server.

Sounds kind of like you may have some file corruption. This used to happen to me back in the day when I tried playing HL1DM/CS - I had overclocked my system to much and it was causing minor file corruption that broke the CRC checking - it also caused popping in a lot of my mp3s :(
If I re-installed HL1/CS it would fix the problem for awhile, until I clocked down a little bit and then reinstalled which made it go away permanetely.

I doubt that's the cause in this case, but you may need to reinstall the HL2CTF mod and/or get another copy of the original maps (dirtwork & substation are included in the mod arent they?).

If not - maybe it's a server-side issue? Anyone willing to delete a map and test it? (I would but I'm at work!).
