I have never used cable modem before and was wondering if it is better than DSL. My DSL here in Montana sucks dick bad! I lose connectivety at least once per game which gets pretty damn frustrating. I am seriously thinking about switching to cable modem, just I don't know a good modem to use and if I do switch if it will be worth it. Any particular brands that work better than others?
Edit: Also almost forgot, is it normal for DSL to disconnect when the fucking phone rings? Seems like evertime the damn phone rings I lose my connection. first, call your cable provider and see if you can get internet first,{sometimes you have to have digital boxesand service to have cable connectivity} and as far as bandwidth, you can cram alot more down a cable line than you could on a digital subscriber line. also, some dsl junctions are very old and can cause bad connections.. im sure someone else who knows wth they are talking about will elaborate more.

Well if it helps to explain my situation a little better, I live on a military installation in base housing. When the house was built, the internet had not even been discovered (I'm thinking the house was built in the 60's or early 70's). Ive always heard that cable is faster. Comcast seems to be really popular (its what I have, some people gripe, but its done me good) I dont mean to generalize but if you live in Montana then chances are that the providers arent very close to you, which would make DSL slow. Your distance away from the provider shouldnt be an issue at all as long as you have service.  AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

First thing is to call your local cable company and ask if it is available at your address! I use a Motorola cable modem it works great. But some times the cable company will lease you one when you sign up that is ok but it is I think 5 more dollars a month! So also check out your local BEST BUY or Curcuit city and see what kind of modems they have sometimes when you buy your modem from them and sign up threw them you get the modem for free!

I had DSL for a year and now have CABLE but really you wont even notice the difference...Cable is a little faster but really in the realm of things not a huge difference...what ever suites you.

Thanks for the info everyone. I ordered new internet service that will be activated 23 Oct - cable modem. I played on the Crypt last night and got disconnected at least 3 times during one game. Well I got the cable modem setup this morning. Talk about a huge difference. My latency went from 185 to 65. I almost never went below 180 before. Pages seem to load way faster than before. LOL CABLE! I install cable modems on a daily. They can be such a pain in the ass, like, waiting on hold with the support center for 45 minutes pain in the ass. TerribleNate wrote:Fuck nice...
