We got to play this map a little bit early early this morning. Once people got over the fact that they'd never played it before and finally learned the map itself, I found it to be quite an enjoyable experience. I love the long hallways.

However, the map gave me a headache.

**BLUNT TRUTH WARNING! DANGER DANGER DANGER**

The map is just ugly. No heart in it. The same textures all over the place just makes me cringe. Some of the rooms are massive, but have absolutly nothing in them. The transitions from textures are shaky and it simply hurts my brain with how the light is super bright... as is everything else. Not saying the map sucks. I actually enjoy the way the map flows gameplay wise. I just think the rooms and decorations need some TLC before it's finished.

Thanks for a great new map, llenta. It will remain in rotation regardless of how I feel about the textures.

its cool, thats the kind of feedback that i need.  i meant to fix the lighting problem before i sent you the map but i guess i forgot.  i have to look into that because i never added a single light into the map, so something for me to investigate.  as for the textures, i have been constantly experimenting with different stuff and i still don't like the ones that are in there, but i can't seem to find anything that works.  i will keep playing around with it and try to figure something out.

I think I read somewhere that if you do not add lighting to a map than Hammer assumes fullbright by default?

I literally got a headache playing this map because it was so bright and I was in a dark room. My suggestion for when you rebuild it (besides the known issue of being fullbright) is to work on the middle section layout some more - once my team took over the middle area we just kept lobbing nades down the tunnel on the right side and killing people as they came out of the spawn rooms.
Also, the objects kept getting in the way - I imagine that is sort of by design and they could be intentionally used to create barriers, but because they are relatively flat I kept running over them and getting stuck and then getting annoyed about it. Maybe put more full on desks in or something?  Besides the issue with the middle I thought it played fairly well once people started to pick up on it - definitely fast paced with lots of group battles.

the middle section was built that way intentionally.  you can pile all the stuff in one entrance to block it, but there are still 3 other ways into each base, so i don't see that as a problem.  i'm actually working on the big rooms in the back that have nothing in them.  i'm trying to turn them into a courtyard with a skybox and other stuff.  i will eventually get to the lighting issue.  i'm a little pressed for time due to midterms this week and finals in 2 weeks, so it will all get finished eventually.

Played it some more and ran into a few new problems - the other team at one point couldnt get out of their spawn, the doors wouldn't open. Not sure what was up there, eventually they could get out again. It definitely played better this time, although the other team kind of sucked and didn't do so well I think more people knew what they were doing compared to the first time I played. I would recommend adding a doorway down in the tunnel between the two spawn rooms to prevent people like me from nade spamming it. Also I might recommend adding a spawn room further back in the base, even just up in the top area above the existing ones would probably be good - I think it would improve the pace of the gameplay (I might be wrong tho, probably want to playtest it with and without to compare).

the spawn doors get jammed when people put slams in the door jams.  all you have to do is shoot the door jam and the slam will blow and the door will open.  i will consiter adding another spawn room in the second level as well as changing the location of the doors on the first level spawn rooms.

UPDATE:

i have moved one of the spawn rooms directly upstairs.  the other spawn room door was placed on the other side of the spawn room so that you exit in the middle of a room away from the hallway.  this should fix the nading issue.  also the lighting problem is now fixed.  i spent a lot of time adding in countless numbers of lights and as of now, its very easy on the eyes.  i am still tweeking the color and shading of the lights to give the level some effect.  i have also opened up the big rooms on either side with a skybox, but i still want to add something to the middle of those rooms so that they aren't just empty space before i finish.  just though i would let you guys no that its coming along, and you will have a new (better) version coming you way soon.

what about a fountain or a tree or something along those lines for the open areas in each base? I've never had anyone actually shoot at me from up above when I rush thru there, but if it ever happens it would be cool to have some cover...

i'm done with all the changes except for that part.  i did experiment with a tree, but after i compile the map, it never shows up.  i don't know why.  sometimes things just don't show up and i can't figure it out.  i don't know if its a hammer problem or a "llenta's a stupid noob" problem.  my guess is that its both.  i will give it another day or two then sent the files to whut and you can enjoy playing it without your sunglasses (that is if you enjoy it).
