So I let my younger brothers on my computer while I went to the store, and when I get back I have new icons and a new homepage, oh and a bunch of cool new pop-ups. They won't tell me where they went, or what they were doing... Soooo it was probably a ring of pornsites... They blamed it on their myspace. Anyway:

Don't go here just in case, but the new home page is "www dot safetyuptodate dot com" (I wrote it like that to prevent whatever).

Also I get an exclamation point inside a delta (triangle) in my start menu toolbar every few minutes. I can't right click it, but when I left click it sends me to a few different "spyware detection" places. I googled the programs and they are all problem programs associated with spyware (malware wipe, pesttest?, and something else).

I viewed a few different forums where people had the same problem, and they said to use the typical adaware, spybot - search and destroy, and whatever virus scanner. I did that. I also found one about hijack this. I haven't used that program, but it seems like something to mess up my computer further if I make a mistake... so this is where I am asking for your help.

Has anybody had this problem? How did you take care of it? And, Do you recommend any other programs, preferably free, that will work? I will pay if I have to, but I believe I can get rid of it without doing so. It is just annoying as of right now. So any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wishus

Make sure all of your virus scanners and anti-spyware programs are up-to-date, you say you used SP S&D, did you try Adaware? What Virus scanner are you using?

Ive used Hijack This once or twice, Ive never heard of it messing up your computer. What Hijack This does, is it logs what is happening to your computer from the spyware and other programs. The log is saved as a handy notepad document, and then you can post that log to people that are good at that kind of stuff can help you out. The people will usually tell you what to delete and whatnot. Where you might get in trouble is gonig and deleting some stuff without consulting them.

Yeah, I used adaware, and everything is up to date. I will try hijack-this today. Also I have the McAfee Security Center.

Yeah, so my computer is broked. Hopefully I will have it running by next weekend...

Turns out the spyware was a front for the evil virus lurking behind it. It slowly disabled all of my virus scanners, adaware, spybot, etc... And then disabled all of my startup items, mcafee, my wacom tablet driver, Oh and any internet capabilities were shredded when my wireless card drivers were corrupted. Fucking brothers... I have had this computer virus free for years, and haven't let them touch it. This is why.

So any Steam enjoyment this week has been cut down to a minimum.

Good Day!

Yeah, I am. Problem is, someone swiped my booklet of CDs out of the front seat of my car the other day... Windows, all my drivers. It will be more than a week before I am back to normal.

Fuck, they sound like my cousins. That really sucks dude, good luck getting everything working again.

Don't see why they can't look at porn on their own computer.
