Well long story short a long dispute with a former employer has left me 750 dollars richer (only half of what I was owed, but still better than nothing). So now I'm thinking of getting a new TV. I'd like an HDTV for my room ranging from the 36-42" range between 750 and 1000 bucks. So a few suggestions would be mighty helpful. I'll be hooking my Wii60 to it and possibly my computer in the future. I just want the best bang for my buck, something that will look good for TV as well as videogames, is between the 36 and 42 inch range, and between 750 and 1000 dollars(sure a tiny bit of wiggle room is allowed). So far I'm looking at this one right here. What do you think? Could I do better? [01:34] whutdufk: I love you Spaniard Lead Salad wrote:I love you Spaniard FinalGamer wrote:I love you Spaniard <3

I personally hate LCD's. We had one at my moms house and it just sucked.
I hate plasma as well though... so
To put it into perspective my 56" rear proj cost me $1700 from costco... never had a problem.

Sony is over priced. If you go plasma get a Panasonic. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Did you notice how I said I was willing to give a little wiggle room? If you are already spending a grand 350 extra bucks is wiggle room. Anyway fuck LCD I talked to a few people and this is what I'm looking at now. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HL-S4666W-46-DLP-HDTV/dp/B000F2P31E [01:34] whutdufk: I love you Spaniard Lead Salad wrote:I love you Spaniard FinalGamer wrote:I love you Spaniard <3

IDK much about TVs, but we got a rear projection for my dad 2 years ago, and its pretty nice. That last link you posted seemed like a sweet deal AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

I'll sell you a 53" Panasonic rear projection hd for 750 :-D. you'll just have to pick it up. From what I've seen out in cableland (I've seen just about every hd out there) Samsung makes a sexy LCD, plasma is garbage, and DLP is really slick but the bulbs are like 400 a pop. I'd personally go for LCD, could double as a PC monitor, and it can be wallmounted. Just my two pennies, don sexual TerribleNate wrote:Fuck nice... Tell her she is fat and stupid every day. DLP scares me, I've heard a lot about super-short lifespans on the bulbs. Total cost of ownership is a lot higher than initial purchase price. I definitely agree about Samsung, nearly everything they make is good shit at a fair price. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I just bought a large TV in Dec, and I did a lot of research before I dropped my cash, so here's my $.02: If you have a media center (like I do) then DO NOT GET A PLASMA. They WILL burn images on your screen. Just ask you local electronic store guru about it - they told me stories of how people with plasma TVs left a DVD menu screen on over night and when they get to the tv the next day, the menu was burned onto the tv. They said the plasma TVs on the store floor get burn in images ALL the time. Know what the #1 image to get burned into plasma TVs is? It's the TVstation logo on the bottom right of your screen that like every channel puts on there. They electronics rep that I talked to said he;s seen TVs with ESPN burned on the screen cause people leave it on a channel for so long (i.e. sports bars). If you want to run a media center (like Tivo, Xbox Media Center, MythTV) then you need a LCD screen. This is the same stuff that flat panel computer monitors use (duh). Also LCD images tend to be clearer and sharper. They also cost 30%-50% more than a plasma, which might put one out of your price range. Like most things, it depends on what you plan to do with your TV. Plasmas are just fine for watching TV or HDTV. Talk to the sales guy and tell them what you plan on using it for mainly (video games vs tv, for example) and see if they suggest something. Lastly, I got my TV for $500 less than advertised. Here's a couple of ways to lower your cost. Ask for 'open box' items. These are TVs that someone bought, brought home, opened it up and decided they dont like it and then returned it. Since the box is open, stores will often mark down a price by %10 or so even though its basically new. And they still have a 30 day moneyback thing, so even if it dont work you arent stuck with it. Also see what TV they only have the floor model for. You can ask to buy the floor model for a discount. If you dont mind the TV already being used for a month, then this is another good way to get a few percent knocked off the price. Finally, delivery. Yeah, most 'big screen' TV dont even fit into large SUVs cause they are just so tall/wide and HAVE to be transported UPright (NOT laying down). If you can save the delivery charge (got a friend with a pickup & some good ties?) then that will will knock of a couple hundred. Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

From EVERYTHING I've heard DLP is the way to go. Plasma is crap and LCD isn't cost effective, but with a DLP I don't have to worry about maintenance for years at a time. Now the guy that I talked to I trust above all and he said DLP is the way to go. [01:34] whutdufk: I love you Spaniard Lead Salad wrote:I love you Spaniard FinalGamer wrote:I love you Spaniard <3
