Ok so I'm up for promotion soon to E-8 ( Master Sgt. ) Because of this I've had to really watch my ass and stand out cause a Military Record only goes so far. As you get higher up it's who you know that gets you promoted.
Well I fucked up I threw all my weight behind a full bird Colonel ( meaning full colonel ) who I thought would carry me to the top with him. Well he transfered and I am now stuck here with the possibility of not being promoted for another 2 years. Lets just say I have made some enemies through the years. I've been through 2 wars ( Afgan and 2nd Iraq ) and the Bosnian conflict in 1995-96. I've busted my ass for my Company and my Country for 12 1/2 years.

I feel your pain. I retired as a Senior Chief because E-9 looked nearly impossible. All of the "good 'ol boys" that I hung with transferred while I was on shore duty and when I went back to sea I had no patrons to help me get my COB job. They made like 4 E-9s a year and they were all COBs. I could read the writing on the wall so I retired and am now very happy for it.
