Where do you guys online for motherboard/cpu combos or barebones systems? I'm checking Newegg and Pricewatch. I'm thinking about starting to build a new comp, but it's been so long that I have to learn all the new types of drives and shit. This would be used for a media center pc so the combo needs to have a little muscle behind it. Thanks! Think this is a good deal? http://www.pricewatch.com/barebones/core_2_duo_e6400.htm

Well if you are going to just stick abounch of media stuff on it and hook it up to a tv, or hook it up on a network and just store all of you media, and just use other computers to access the media you really dont need a super powered computer. If you are going to hook it up to a tv, or have it near one it would be best to get passive cooling for it, to keep the nosie down. if you just want it to hold all your media you can just get a 2ghz and 1 gig ram and passive heatsink for the cpu, and a passive cooling psu. But you can also get the core duo 2, i have a laptop that has core duo in it and its crazy fast. The core 2 duo set up will work good for you. Newegg is were i get alot of my stuff from they have good prices and if something goes wrong they will bend over backwards to help you. It will be the start of a Windows Media Center PC, so in the end it will need to be pretty powerful. I'd like to find a mobo that can support 4GIG RAM so eventually I can do that (like in a year or two, I work slow).

tigerdirect has a REALLY bad reputation. If you are branching out beyond newegg or mwave.com I would check out the stores ratings first. I don't remember the URL off the top of my head, I think it's something like "resellerratings.com" but google knows. Really though, between mwave and newegg you should be all set. Actually so far I have only looked at Newegg and Pricewatch. I'll check out mwave.com, thanks!! Is there a particular barebones system you'd recommend?

You would probably wanna wait for the E4400 to come out, because the E4300 will drop in price to about $90. Pair it up with a Gigabyte S3 at chiefvalue for $85 and 2gb of Supertalent from Ewiz.com for about $120 and you've got a pretty beefy system.

I'm in no rush to buy (as I am broke atm).

It'll probably be out soon. They haven't specified a date but they said its coming out Q2 of 2007 and that could mean anytime between now and a couple months ahead. Though it is definietly worth the wait!
