Been awhile.
I'm not one to make excuses, but I would like to explain my absence the last few months.
I was around for parts of September, October and a little in November- mainly because school had started, so I had less time to play CTF & DM. Around the beginning of November, I got a few viruses unfortunately, some of which McAfee caught and either quarentined or delted entirely. Still- I was getting pop-up's, and those pesky "pop-under" advertisements. Just so you know, when we moved here, we had AOL Broadband, so Time Warner hooked us up, and it was fine. Problem with Time Warner, is they screw you at every turn. Apparently, from what I understand from the AOL Tech representative, is that Time Warner encrypts their cable or something, so that you only get full cable internet when connected through AOL. That means I can use AIM, XFire, and Steam (without viewing the store), I can connect to servers, but cannot download maps I don't already have, etcetc.
So that was bad enough, because with two computers in the house, I have to share AOL from time to time. But during the summer, my family realized that the power meter thingy that they check from time to time, was coming off the house. It has this big friggen pole up the side of the house, and towards the top, the bolts for the attachment were pulling out, so we had a family friend fix it. And go figure, that made things worse. WHILE he was "fixing" it, it fell off the damn house anyway, and managed to pull on a wire attached in the back. It just happened to be my lucky day that this particular wire was the cable wire.
Throughout Sept, Oct, and Nov, the cable was pretty fine. But, as the wind and weather started to come into play more and more, we realized something was wrong. The cable that had been fixed on the side of my house and was ripped from its attachment, started getting loose. More and more, we realized this was affecting our slow cable. Watching local channels got worse. FOX didn't come in clearly for a while, and neither did CBS.
Oh- and of course, even if the cable was in and working, you could give it ten minutes before it went out, AGAIN.
Because of all the viruses, and my shitty computer, I decided to clear my harddrive back to Factory Defaults [I've done this previously, and it worked miracles]. Mid-way through the process (On Christmas day), it messed up. I couldn't get the computer past the initial start up. Took two weeks to receive a refurbished harddrive from Dell- and after clearly explaining my problem, and what came with it, they ignored me, and didn't give me the OS discs to install Windows XP on it. So-- another week went by, and I got those. This is like the beginning of January now.
Computers fixed, no viruses, and I have a 160 GB external drive with everything from before for the most part. I put that stuff back onto this harddrive, and started installing Steam and stuff. Unfortunately now- the problem is, and has been for some time, getting my internet to work. Lately the issue has gotten more severe. My brother and I can no longer even play what Steam games we have online. I tried CTF- but it didn't work. I uninstalled it though.
I tried two days ago to get X-Fire downloaded and reinstalled (after I got everything here fixed, I couldnt get most internet apps to work) and the download time for a 2mb program was one hour. For 100 mb CTF client .exe it gave me an estimated 20 hours.
With alot of begging, we've talked our mother into finally calling the cable company. She is supposed to within this month, hopfully this week but god only knows.
I haven't been able to be online a long time exactly, so I haven't checked the boards in a while. I also failed to tell you guys about those problems to begin with lol.
Sorry to let you down. I hope you guys can forgive my absence, as I hope to return soon. Just thought since I got this working somewhat, I'd give posting a shot, because I was trying to get CTF again, and failed. Some of you may have been wondering where I went, and then again maybe not, but I figured I'd let those of you know who did at least care lol.
I'll check back in when it's fixed and I know I can start playing again. =/
Maybe I'll try DM some more hopefully.
Later guys.
