They released it online, i'd just rather have it on my hard drive. Besides, they have enough money. Bike wrote:I like to make werewolf movies.

Plus, NIN usually has good packaging with lyrics and everything. I like getting the lyrics from the actual artist since the web-based lyrics sites all suck. I'm on the fence on this album... I've always loved NiN... but this album kinda sounds like, as POM put it, the scraps from With Teeth.

To me it sounds like With Teeth + Downward Spiral, although Hyperpower and the other instrumental tracks remind me more of The Fragile. The only track I am on the fence about is The Great Destroyer but I think the insane glitched out ending to it is pretty awesome, it's really the first half of the song I'm unsure about. God Given is probably my current favorite track on there, mostly because it rocks the bass in my car like nothing else. I think it is probably my new favorite NIN album, the whole concept thing behind it is pretty cool too. I'd never waste time converting the beats into binary so I can see a bitmap of The Presense and all that shit but it's cool knowing that there are all kinds of hidden messages and shit that people are discovering and freaking out about. If I was a 15 year old stoner I'd be all over that shit between trying to score some Opal and waiting for us to nuke Tehran. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Well, I'm giving it another listen through... So far I don't like tracks 1-3.... though survivalism is do-able. I like the Good Soldier though... But really I hate this new band. I really miss the old band. I bought the live dvd from both old and new bands and the new band sucks in comparison. 5-6 tracks I hate Capitol G I like a lot. (track 7) Track 8 (Violent...) Is tolerable. I think it might grow on my similar to how Line Begins to Blur grew on me... but for now it's just ok. Track 9... I'm really on the fence about. It has it's moments... but it isn't very exciting (though none of this album is exciting).

I like the Good Soldier though... But really I hate this new band. I really miss the old band. I bought the live dvd from both old and new bands and the new band sucks in comparison. The whole album sounds so much better on a decent speaker set up. Comparing how it sounds in my car to how it sounds over my dinky computer speakers is night and day. Wish my nice headphones didn't fry out because I bet it's even better with good headphones. I think the new band vs. old band thing is more about the guitars - it seems like they overpower the rest of the music a lot of the time, the structure gets drowned out. I'm not a big fan of the butchering of the Ruiner guitar solo that goes on these days either, that is seriously one of the best guitar solos in recorded history. I can understand them not being able to recreate it perfectly since it was done by slowing a guitar track down in software and doing all sorts of crazy processing on it, but they could at least try for the same effect instead of the crappy feedback driven scratchy noise thing I hear in all the recent video from the current tour. Sometimes I wish Trent would just rig up a bunch of machines to play all the tracks and DJ it instead of trying to rely on hired help for live instruments. Or maybe bring Chris Vrenna back. Unrelated thought: Marilyn Manson has a new album coming out in the very near future. Perhaps we will see a Manson+NIN joint tour extravaganza. I'd pay for front row tickets to see that shit! New KMFDM and Celldweller albums this year as well. It is shaping up to be a good year for new music. I kinda like God Given... (track I'm on now). I liked "Only" and this has that same sort of up-beat feel. As for listening to it properly... my comp speakers are far from dinky... but in addition to that I listened to the album on my custom car system, so it's not a matter of sound... it's a matter of interest. The songs bore me. I will agree about the guitars drowning it out live. I much preferred the more synth driven live shows.

Capital G is supposed to be the next single off the album, although it seems like Vessel (track 5 - why do you hate it?) or God Given would make better singles. Something really cool is that Trent is releasing the source files to the singles so people can remix them. I had hours of fun remixing Only. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Too slow. Too boring. It just doesn't tickle my pickle. I really like Meet your Master. Interesting fact though... I like The Great Destroyer... lol. I think you and I just have different ways of interpreting music.
