One of the most impressive things that we saw at E3 this year was not some fantastic new next gen game or even an amazingly delicious nonfat yogurt, but actually a PC device from a relatively unknown company by the name of Sandio Tech. Who is this Sandio Tech and how could they create anything more amazing than a delicious nonfat yogurt that doesn't disappoint in the flavor department? Well all joking aside they are a tech company that has created something that no gamer has ever witnessed before and that is the worlds first 3D gaming mouse, the Game O. What exactly is a 3D gaming mouse? In terms us gamers can easily understand think of it as a mouse that you could use to play an FPS one handedly. When given the added control of the Y-axis you can control character movement with your thumb and jump/ducking with your pinky while using the rest of the regular mouse functions like you normally would. Though the mouse is not limited to just FPS gaming, any 3D interface programs such as modeling programs, RTS games, and Google Earth enjoy greatly enhanced functionality with this mouse.
(This is one of many prototypes though I have been shown more recent prototypes that are still classified and I must say that they look very slick.)
After some playtime with the Game O mouse myself I must say that the effect is quite amazing. While the very concept is something far removed from what we are used to and it will understandably take a little bit of getting used to after 5 minutes with it I was fragging away in a game of UT2k4 just as I always have, but this time.. one handedly. This is a great boon to gamers who could better use their other hand for essential actions such checking stats and typing messages while remaining in the center of the action.
(Unreal Tournament 2004 plays very well with the Game O.)
The Game O mouse offers gamers an alternative way to navigate their games in addition to the WASD setup on the keyboard. Your opposite hand is now free to execute commands that used to be exclusive to the keyboard when using a traditional mouse. You can now move forward, backward, sideways, yaw, pitch, jump, and crouch all with the mouse. In RTS and RPG games you can issue commands while simultaneously changing the camera view. Using the Game O you'll gain a significant time advantage that can allow you to pull of moves and commands faster than anybody would with a traditional mouse/keyboard setup potentially giving you a real edge in online gaming.
(With this mouse your opposite hand is free to preform other essential gamer tasks such as picking your nose or scratching yourself while playing games.)
The Game O will retail at about $79 and be available 4th quarter 2006. While I could wax endlessly about this mouse why do that when Sandio has graciously provided us with a technical video to show our readers? There are still a few kinks that need to be worked out and while unfortunately named this is truly an amazing piece of tech that has to be seen to be truly understood. So check it out. right here. At first I started reading it and I was like... well this kinda reminds me of an idea I once had, but it seems poorly implemented. And I wasnt wuite sure how you would maneuver it around, then I saw the video. It seems like some really cool stuff could be pulled off if they let you customize it right. maybe if they moved the buttons around on the mouse to make it feel more comfortable, it would be nicer but theres no way you could play most current fps games one handed, theres just too much your left hand needs to do on the keyboard.
and personaly i hated the feel of the mouse, this thing would me much more useful for 3D graphic design like they had in their preview. NOT for gaming Formally known as MrT The film "Brokeback Mountain" was originally pitched as an off-beat romance starring MrT and WhutDuFuk. The sole reason the two legends declined the starring roles is because if MrT and WhutDuFuk were to kiss, there would be new meaning to the word homosexual...it would mean "obligation".

While talking to them I mentioned a couple of minor alterations and button replacements that would make it 100 times better and after E3 they showed me their new designs which looked absolutely a billion times better. Regardless, I can't imagine the want or need of playing an FPS game with one hand... unless I lost an arm in combat or something.

You seem to be missing the point. It's not about having a hand free, that is only an added bonus. The point is that when you use mouse + keyboard you're using both hands and splitting the functions of your brain. With this you only need to use one hand and one side of your brain. If you learn to do all those dual fisted functions with a single hand you will eventually become more efficient at it being able to play faster, better, and have an advantage/edge in gaming.[01:34] whutdufk: I love you Spaniard Lead Salad wrote:I love you Spaniard FinalGamer wrote:I love you Spaniard <3
