So I beat the game, and loved it. I'm going to play through again and try the other ending. The plot twist was good, it reminded me of Deus Ex.

What is with all the issues surrounding Bioshock?  First, they completely shaft widescreen users.  VERT- is not  widescreen.  Why did I shell out $300 for a 22" widescreen LCD just to find players with 4:3 (regular) ratio monitors see more of the environment.  Second, you can only install the game twice.  This shouldn't be a problem until you find out you only get your "install credits" back after you uninstall first.  If your Hard Drive fails, your credit died with it.  If you format without uninstalling, same thing.  You will read about a "credits" system where you supposedly can install it again after correctly uninstalling it first, but this has not been shown to be true.  Third, SecureROM is used on this game.  That is right.  If you installed Bioshock (PC), even just the demo, you installed a rootkit.  You have compromised your system.  Seriously, why does a FREE demo need anti-piracy?

I might just get it for my xbox360 on the 54" MONSTAR, but I don't see them fixing the widescreen FOV issue anytime soon.  Any way you go it is less than perfect.

EVEN for the PC demo, widescreen works just fine for me, my monitor automatically resizes to the aspect ratio the game is set to. Even a 4:3 ratio it woun't strech the game image like an elastic band

You obviously didn't visit my first link.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/shortscreened/bioshocks-widescreen-pissing-people-off-291697.php
There you will see this picture:

If you have 4:3, you will see the entire visual area (including the area represented by the red areas).  If you have widescreen, you get everything but the red areas.  This means widescreen users (on PC and xbox360) get a 4:3 screen cropped on the top and bottom instead of actually having a wider view.  Proper widescreen support would make it so a widescreen ratio would display a 4:3 scene PLUS more stuff on the sides (HOR+) not just chopping the top and bottom (VERT-).  Here is basically how the crappy "zoom-in" widescreen works in Bioshock:

Some people can't visualize the issue, so here is another representation of the problem:

EDIT:
One final demonstration of the problem

This fake widescreen makes the environment feel zoomed in.

Must get new gaming rig.

Correction, must get new gaming rig that will actually play the games the cool kids are currently playing.
You should be more like Cantrip.

Get the system I'm getting, unless you don't want to build it, or if you have the budget for a better one.

They're working on it

The whole thing about widescreen was untrue, and had people stopped bitching for a minute they would have realized that the main website had a press release the day after the game came out about it.

Your poor use of grammar makes understanding your post difficult.  "The initial issue is also, [pause] untrue..."  That doesn't make sense.

;)

Back to Bio$haft- I looked around on the Bioshock website (http://downloads.2kgames.com/bioshock/site/raptureawaits.html) and couldn't find any reference to a press release talking about widescreen.  Then I found the Cult of Rapture site (http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/home.html).  I don't know the reason for the site being separate from the main Bioshock one, but I did see the post called "THE TRUTH ABOUT WIDESCREEN" where "Elizabeth" tries to do damage control by saying everything is as intended.  She is the same cunt from the forums (Elizabeth2k I believe) who said that when you uninstall the game you reclaim your "install credits."  This has been proven to be a bold-faced lie.  At the moment there is no way to recover any install credits by uninstalling (or any other method).  Don't believe anything only reported from that hag.  She doesn't know anything.

This game needs to following changes:
  • True widescreen support (since the Unreal engine 3 supports it and this is what Bioshock uses)
  • Removal of SecureROM DRM bullshit (rootkit-like in behavior)
  • Antialiasing (AA) support (since the Unreal engine 3 supports it)
  • Removal of the 2 (now 5) install limitation
  • Removal of required internet activation
  • Shader model 2.0 (SM2) support (since the Unreal engine 3 supports it)
There are also all kinds of problems with system crashes, mouse issues, audio sync problems, physics objects and enemies seemingly locked to something like 15fps regardless of overall fps, the almost mandatory use of beta drivers (regarding nVidia cards) which can break other games, and on and on.  A magical patch is supposedly coming out soon, but there has been no mention of a.)what it might fix and b.)when it will be released.  It seems there was no beta testing done at all.  Otherwise there wouldn't be so many problems.  This product (at least for PC) was obviously rushed to market.  Now all the paying customers are beta testers.

I went  back and edited a couple of words in my post before hitting the post button without reading the entire post afterwards.  The change completely fucked the flow of the entire post making it make absolutely no sense.  I went back and fixed it.  Happy?

You fucking prick..
