So, I was in a Kinko's parking lot a few nights ago.  There was a car parked when I got there a few rows away from me at the end of that row next to some bushes.  There was a motorcycle cop parked behind it and a few empty stalls over there was parked highway patrol car.

One officer was talking to a middle-aged white guy who was shifting his weight from foot to foot.  The other officer was searching the car and pulled out a black plastic bag with what sounded like empty beer cans.  He pulled one out and it looked like a Mickey's can.  He put the bag down on the ground and went to talk with the guy and the other officer.

After the exchange they all looked down one direction of the parking lot scanning for a few seconds, then they turned their heads toward the other and scanned. Then the motorcycle cop locked the car, took the bag and put it in the bushes, put on his helmet and rode off on his bike.

The man and the highway patrol officer walked toward the car.  Cool, I thought.  He's going to bust his ass.

But no.  The officer got into the car and the man opened the passenger door and they drove off.  WTF?

My guess is the target was a cop or a family member of a cop.  Actually, he looked like a local official, but I couldn't place his face.

Anyway, I checked out the bushes.  In the bag I found three empty Mickey's beer cans and one can of Joose - a flavored 9% malt beverage presumably pronounced "juice."   The residual beer in the empty cans still fizzed.  The unopened can was cold and had condensation on it.  My guess was he was drunk enough for them not to let him drive, but too much of a buddy to haul him in.

I went into Kinko's, made my copies and then wrote the guy a note. "You should not have been driving in your condition. You got lucky."  I placed the note under his wiper blade.  I then went to my car and took pictures of his license plate.  Just to satisfy my curiosity, I placed my hand on his car hood to determine if he had been driving.  Though the night was cold, his hood was warm.

I took the unopened can as a trophy.

Fucking crooked cops.

You should be more like Cantrip.

In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.
