turn your settings down. if you have AA on, turn it off or down to 2x. If you have anistropic filtering, turn it off. Turn texture details down too, and shadows off. basically set it to the lowest settings everywhere except in the resolution. Then start turning settings back up until you find something with good FPS that still looks decent.

Ok, here's the deal with ram, I can understand why you left your 512mb stick in your system but might I ask as to why when 2gb of ram is more than enough?  What your probably experiencing is your mobo trying to compensate for the new ram in your system, if one of your ram chips is slower than another then your mobo will adjust all of them to the same speed.  So, if the new ram you have is faster than the old one you have then I suggest just taking out the 512 stick and test the system out after that, you should see a nice increase in speed.  Besides, most mobo's only like to run ram in singles or in pairs, and another thing, NEVER mix match ram for your system, if you have one set of ram in your system then go with "The EXACT same chips" or you WILL be running into problems later on.

WARNING!
Times mentioned in the above post are stated in WHUT time... which is not the time normal humans are accustomed. Whut time is relative. Today is defined as whenever Whut happens to get a bug up his ass and thinks he is gotten sorta of close to being in the mood. The actual real life timeframe for these occurences is unknown at this time. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day and during other periods it would be more like for hell to freeze over than anything actuallly getting done. Currently we are in a time frame where it would seem that there would be more of a chance of Dragon getting a girlfriend as far fetched as that might be than there would be of anything actually happening here.

lol, i remember the day when every problem here was solved by reformatting.

do what lone wolf says and remove that 512 stick to see what happens. you're only running XP i presume anyway so 2GB should be more than enough....
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Remove the 512 stick and stay with the 2 gigs, having 3 sticks in your system is probably what's causing the problem.  Most motherboards out there don't like having an odd amount of memory modules in them.

Funny, no mention it was 2 256mb sticks......if thats the case then do this.  Open case, remove the 2 256mb ram chips, go to trash can, toss sticks into trash.
